Message from the Principal
Schweitzer students and families,
We made it through the new year! I am so incredibly proud of the efforts of our staff and students as we continue to be diligent in our building and district Health and Safety Plan. A big reason for our success with in-person learning is due to the diligence and hard work of everyone from students, teachers, Instructional Assistants, custodians, nurses, and all the amazing staff that help support our school to maintain safety precautions on a daily basis.
Students continue to stay with their homeroom cohort throughout the day for instruction, lunch, recess, and specials. Lunches are still eaten in classrooms and stations are maintained when students are at recess. We ask parents to continue to follow suggested precautions to help assist us as a school community:
- Send your child to school with 1-2 clean masks every day. Wash them regularly to keep them clean and sanitized.
- Remind your child of the importance of maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.
- Model for your child appropriate expectations such as wearing a mask when picking up your child and washing/sanitizing your hands often.
- Be mindful of the family activities outside of school. No matter how diligent we are in school with our health and safety plan, everyone needs to do their best to maintain precautions outside of school hours.
- Complete the Health Check Symptom Screener each morning with your child(ren). It's important to take your child's temperature and pay attention to any symptoms to keep your child and everyone at school safe.
We are also working to embed more Guided Reading small group instruction into our in-person and Canvas Reading lessons. This means that if you are a Plan D student, you will be asked to participate in Guided Reading lessons with the teacher via Zoom. These Zoom schedules will be provided by the classroom teacher. Students will need to log on at a specific time(s) during the week. We appreciate your help in making sure your student logs in at their assigned time, and as always, we value your support in your child's learning.
Take care,
Dr. Amy Orlando
Principal

Be a Part of the 'Share the Love' Slideshow
Hello Schweitzer Families and Happy New Year!
2020 turned out to be a very different year than I'm sure any of us expected when we were at this time last year. 2021 already seems like it might look a little different than normal as well. Sadly, for the PTO, this means that many of the events our kiddos enjoyed are unable to be held this year, including the ever-popular Sweetheart dance. In an effort to get everyone into the Valentine's spirit, we would like to still do something a little special for the kids and families.
We are creating a Share the Love picture slideshow! Have your student(s) take a picture of themselves with anyone they love: parents, grandparents, pets, and send those pictures to me, Kate Hennessey, at kateaspto@gmail.com. I will then compile them into a slideshow that the teachers can share at school and can be viewed at home as well.
If your student would like to be included, please send me the pictures by Friday, February 5. For the best images, please send them to me in the highest resolution possible.
We hope to see everyone's smiling faces!
Kate Hennessey

The incentives are awarded each week to the homeroom with the highest percentage of students logging and and spending 50+ minutes in each subject each week. Awards are given for both math and reading. K-2 classrooms earn the Yoop and Plory plushies. Grades 3 & 4 earn trophies for their performance. They get to keep the plushie for the week. Congratulations to the classrooms that earned the awards for this past week! No

*You can choose how much/ little information you want to share in the directory. You do this by going to the directory and clicking the "My Student" tab. On the right of the screen you will see "add a student". Please click this and add the information you would like to share in the directory and assign your student to their current classroom.
