Island Survival Guide
Piggy's Perspective by Brett B, Jalen J and Cassidy P
Piggy's Guide to Survival
1. Always focus on the main goal. If you don't focus on the main goal, like getting off a deserted island, you won't be able to survive.
2. Make sure to keep track of your food and drink intake. If you eat and drink too much, you won't be able to save some for later.
3. Keep everyone in check if there are others with you. You don't want someone going crazy and kill some people.
4. Don't be lazy and always work towards a goal. If you're not working to your full potential, you won't be able to get off the island. Also, make sure that others are working with you if there are others there.
5. Have an open mind on any topic. Any thought or idea isn't a bad one.
6. Make friends not enemies.
7.Have a positive attitude on life, don't think of the worst just keep working.
Conch Shell
The conch shell allowed control throughout the group of boys. It allowed them to not yell many things at once, it provided each and every boy on the island to say what was on their mind without any interruptions during the beginning of the story.
Pig
It was one of the few sources of food available on the island besides the wild fruit. Soon the hunt for pigs led Jack to only focus on killing pigs instead of getting off the island. "All the same you need an army-for hunting, Hunting pigs-." Pg. 32
Spectacles
The spectacles were used in order to start the fire on top of the mountain and Jack's fire for his tribe. The spectacles were the only tool the boys thought of using. "We used his specs, He helped that way." Pg. 42
Shelter
They started to build shelters due to many storms on the island and they had no way of staying dry. However, most of the boys were lazy and did not build any shelters. "And they keep running off. You remember the meeting? How everyone was going to work hard until the shelters were finished?" Pg. 50
Fruit
The wild fruit was one of the few food sources on the island along with the pig. However, after the boys ate the fruit, they had the runs...
Reflection
We learned many things about survival from Piggy's perspective. First, we learned to work smarter, not harder. We learned this when Ralph made the rule that if someone wanted to speak, they needed to hold the conch shell. We also learned that using your resources help you in the long run. We learned that when Jack used sticks to make spears for hunting pigs. As well as, you have to get along with some people you don't like. We learned this because Piggy, Ralph, and Jack didn't get along, but if they put their differences to the side, they could have gotten more accomplished. Lastly, we learned that you can't lose hope towards surviving and getting rescued. We learned this when Jack let the fire go out, Ralph still cared about getting off the island, but Jack only cared about hunting pigs.
