MCCGA Percussion/Winds Education

2018-2019 Season, Issue 1 (Pre-Season Planning)

Congratulations on your outdoor season! Concert Band and Indoor Percussion/Winds season is now upon us.

Hello,

My name is Jordan Nimmo and I am happy and excited to fill the roll of Percussion/Winds Education Director for MCCGA. I have been involved with MCCGA since 2000 and have experienced all sides of the circuit from a student performer, instructor, designer, ensemble director, and now extended board member. With the utmost humility I welcome the opportunity to facilitate growth in our circuit through new membership as well as continuing the development of current members through resources, news, and information. It is my goal through monthly newsletters, emails, and face-to-face conversations to help propel the percussion and winds domain of MCCGA to a new level!

I am Percussion Director and Assistant Band Director at Kickapoo and my time is limited to attend regional marching band competitions due to our own performances, but I have been able to attend some regional competitions and am proud where our region is within the domain of outdoor ensemble school representation. However, when it comes to indoor participation, our region seems to fall short. It is my goal to help alleviate any stress, angst, or concerns when it comes to developing an indoor percussion or wind group.

MCCGA is a fantastic opportunity for students of all ages and skill-levels to hone their talents and perform for top-notch regional and WGI judges. Before you think having an indoor marching group is too much work and you do not have enough time to rehearse because the gym is always booked, I urge you to consider an indoor concert group. With the recent development of MSHSAA Percussion Large Ensemble, MCCGA would make an excellent opportunity for your ensemble to showcase their work while at the same time receive professional comments from adjudicators from across the country. Rather than one performance at MSHSAA Large Ensemble, your group could have multiple performances and a timeline of performances that would help the development for your final performance (whenever that might be).

Musically,

Jordan Nimmo
