Smoke Signals: Staff Edition

July 23, 2018

Welcome to Shackelford!

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Brittany Griffith! She was approved at Monday night's board meeting and will be starting with us Monday, July 30.

Mrs. Griffith graduated from Waxahachie High School, completed her undergrad at Texas A&M University (Whoop!), and will receive her Master's in Educational Administration from Lamar University. She has been in education for eight years, and the past six years at Finley Junior High teaching Science. Her favorite things about education are finding new, innovative ways to help students learn, and building relationships with students. She lives here in Waxahachie with her husband and two children, Nolan and Riley. She says, "I am so excited to be a part of the Shackelford family and cannot wait to get to know the staff and students!"

Happy Summer!

Hello Shackelford,

I hope your summer break is continuing to be great. Here are some updates and upcoming dates to share!

I'd like to welcome Mrs. Krystal (Nikki) Keller to our team! She will be serving Shackelford as an instructional aide this year. She is an intern who will be finishing her degree in education very soon. I'm excited to see the great things Mrs. Keller will bring to our team.

The Question on EVERYBODY's mind...When can I get in my room?!!?

August 1 is the first day that staff members can return to their classrooms. Thank you for your patience as we get the building ready for you!

Summer Hours -

  • Custodians and I will be on campus from 7:30 - 4:30 Monday through Thursday.
  • Mrs. Bigler and Mrs. Redd will return on July 24 - Yay!
  • Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Horn and our new AP will report back on July 30 - double Yay!

Open Positions - We currently have an opening for one instructional aide

Dates for August are below. Make sure that you subscribe to our staff calendar and student calendar to stay up to date on everything. You can subscribe to these on your devices.

Keep enjoying your summer and let me know if there is anything I can do for you!

Shackelford's Hub - Where to find all the info you need to know!

Check out "The Hub!" This is where you will find all the information that you need to know about Shackelford this year. Save the link to your desktop. Save it to your home screen. I think this will save you lots of time and keep important 'need-to-know' info super handy.

Assignment: Flip the Faculty Meeting!

Take some time to peruse The Hub prior to our August 13 staff meetings. This will give you a chance to read over schedules and such before we meet so you can be ready with any questions you may have.

Professional Development Opportunitites

Region 10 - check out Region 10's calendar of events. There are conferences and sessions offered throughout the summer. They also have good sessions online!

Region 13 - Region 13 offers a wealth of information and training about special education students, specifically those with Autism. I would recommend that everyone take the course series entitled, "Strategies for Working with Students with Autism in the General Education Setting" there are 10 sessions that range in the amount of time required for completion. Professionals can receive flex hours for any of these sessions. We will have the new Structured Instruction class on our campus next year, so any additional training in Autism you could take would be beneficial to all on campus.

Google Training - Consider studying for the Google Level 1 certification exam. This shows that you have a comprehensive understanding of Google's basic tools for educators. This certification identifies you as someone who is technologically savvy.

WISD Badges - Keep working on your badges! Try to add a couple more this summer. :-)

CPI Training - If you need the 4 hour CPI refresher course, sign up for a course in June. There will be very few, if any, offered in July or August. Those needing new CPI certification will have courses offered in August.
