What's For Dinner? LATKES!
This week’s recipe comes from Traci Greenberg, who also provides us a short history of Hanukkah:
"Hanukkah begins November 28 and lasts for 8 nights. This holiday is also known as ‘The Festival of Lights.’ Every night we add a candle to the menorah to remember the miracle that happened. A long time ago, there was a special lamp that was to always be lit, but because of a war, the light went out! Thankfully, there was a small amount of oil that the Jewish people thought would only last one day, but it lasted 8 nights until new oil was made! During Hanukkah, we also celebrate by playing the dreidel game and eating latkes (a potato pancake)."
Courtney Sissick - Grade 3 Teacher
Hello! My name is Courtney Sissick and I live in Shelton, CT. This year will be my second year of teaching. Last year I taught Third Grade in Ellington, CT and I am so excited to continue working in Third Grade at RES.
This summer, I visited Newport, Rhode Island for the first time. My favorite part was the Cliff Walk with its breathtaking views of the ocean! Besides teaching, I enjoy dance (I have been taking classes since I was 5) and hanging out with my friends, family and dog, Shadow.
Why I Chose Teaching:
I chose teaching as a career because of my Third Grade teacher. She made school a welcoming and enjoyable place to learn and grow. I strive to do the same for my future students!
I am excited for this to be a great year!

Frosty Drive
Every holiday season the RES PTA hosts an annual Frosty Gift Drive. The drive allows members of our community to donate gifts to organizations within our extended community. This year, the RES community will support the Boys and Girls Village in Milford, Kids in Crisis in Cos Cob and Redding Social Services.
If you are interested in giving this season, please visit the link below where you will be brought to a Sign-Up Genius with links to each organization's wish list. Thank you for your support!
