SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Kind'.
To be 'inclusive' and welcoming to all our new Vogeltown learners is the 'Vogeltown Way'. We show 'inclusiveness' as part of our school vision of Manaaki Tangata - caring for the people.
Being a 'Vogeltowner' is being a good citizen of our community - someone who is inclusive, respectful, original, courageous and kind.
SCHOOL GOAL: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
WHAT: WELCOME BACK TO 2022 – To treat everyone the same, our VS family! Be INCLUSIVE!
WHY:
We are a welcoming school and we want all learners and whanau to feel safe and happy here
Being an ‘inclusive’ learner you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’ - Manāki tangata
Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome & involve all people to our family – being ‘inclusive’
HOW:
By being a ‘Vogeltowner’ you show ‘inclusiveness’ by involving everyone - regardless of creed, race or gender.
By involving anyone in your group - whether it be a game, a class task, sitting together at lunch
By supporting other people and accepting everyone has differences - being collaborative
By being a positive Vogeltown citizen - keeping a positive attitude when working with others
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You can work collaboratively and positively with other people
You are welcoming and accept people into your game, group or task
You can support others - making sure everyone feels included in your group, class and school
You are a ‘Vogeltowner’ showing inclusiveness and Manāki tangata
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
This week we have been lucky to have great weather and a slowing of the covid spread. Our attendance this week has climbed back up to 85% from 75% the last two weeks. It has been great to have 'full classrooms' again as our learners come back from isolation. We are also thankful that for many of our learners, this has been a mild cold/flu.
We are looking forward to Term 2 where hopefully we can begin to bring back some of the normality to school. We are looking to have the same bell times on the senior side and have same play times for Huatoki (middles) and Paetoki (Senior) teams at the beginning of term 2. We may still have to keep the junior and senior school separate, but hopefully we can begin to combine again as well. We will let you know in the first week after our leadership team meet.
A big thanks to those parents/caregivers who came in to school or 'zoomed' for Learning Conferences the last two nights. It was great to have that connection again with our whanau. At the learning conferences your child(ren)'s progress report was discussed and shared. It is important to note that this is a 'progress report' - a snapshot of where your child(ren) are at this moment in time. As natural abilities of kids vary, comparisons with other kids reports would be unfair. We are expecting every child to make progress over the year and we will use this same report to illustrate this to you each term.
It has been great to see the classes focusing on our local curriculum. The story of the Te Henui and the Huatoki rivers have been discussed, retold, and drawn in the classrooms. Our carvings tell the story of both of these rivers perfectly.
The classrooms are looking amazing and the artwork on the walls along with lots of 'kid work' is amazing - they have certainly been working hard these last 10 weeks!
A big thanks again to our teaching team here at Vogeltown. They have continued to be enthusiastic, flexible and professional in the face of all the mandates, covid settings and constant changes. The last two nights of learning conferences was testament to this. Thanks team - Ka Rawe whanau!
Have a great weekend whanau, and remember HE WAKA EKE NOA - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 10
This week has been a slightly better week than last week. Our attendance has improved, but still sitting at about 85% - this is still down by 10% on attendance we have from the start of the year. We have been combining some classes together this week as numbers in each class reduced due to having Covid or having to isolate.
A reminder of changes to our school safety plans:
* Scanning in using the COVID QR code is no longer needed (but visitors still need to sign in at the office in the usual manner)
* Masks still required in class for Years 4 and above
* Monitor your child’s health very carefully, and keep them home if they show any symptoms
Isolate for 7 days if there is a COVID case in your household
* We will continue with staggered break times at the senior side to reduce playground congestion and keep our two school sites separate.
* Rooms 6 and 1 pickup times to remain at 2.45pm, as well as the Huatoki team (Middles).
For more detailed information, please refer to:
https://covid19.govt.nz/.../changes-to-the-traffic-light.../
We are still expecting more and more cases to crop up at Vogeltown and will continue to communicate with our families. Thanks to the families who are letting us know if they need to isolate or if they are keeping their child home. Please can we ask that you let the school office know as well as the classroom teacher - either by email, Skool Loop, text or call. Our school mobile number is 021 753 680.
DRESS UP DAY - LAST DAY OF TERM
We are also asking everyone to being a 'non perishable item' for the New Plymouth Foodbank - Manaaki tangata, caring for the people!
