Hello, Tiger Families!
I am excited to introduce myself as the new Cocoa High School Principal. I know I have a long legacy of exemplary leaders to both honor and emulate; I look forward to the extraordinary opportunity to continue the work of these great Cocoa Tiger leaders!
In response to the state assessment data for SY2022, we have established several school improvement goals for SY2023. In essence, our goals are to 1) Increase student attendance, 2) increase student academic performance, and 3) increase positive school culture and climate. We need your help in supporting these goals, especially student attendance. We earned an initial grade of “I” for our SY2022 grade due to low testing numbers. We must reach a 95% tested rate during all test sessions. Please stress the importance of good and on time attendance to all classes. A reminder that students can actually fail a class due to poor attendance, even if they have earned a passing grace. Attendance matters.
I am grateful to the many volunteers and mentors that we have assisting our students throughout the year. We are asking for additional mentors to help us support our students towards graduation. If interested in providing mentoring to a student, please email Sandra Celesti at celesti.sandra@brevardschools.org. She can get you set up with fingerprinting and paperwork to set you up to be able to support our students.
Thank you for all you do to support your child’s academic success. We look forward to a great year of partnership with all of our families!

Media Center News
Welcome CHS families to this school year. The Cocoa High Media Center provides a wide range of materials in varying levels of difficulty to meet the literacy needs of all of our students and teachers. These resources are chosen using the District Media selection policy for age-appropriate content and interest. As with all other aspects of a student’s education, parents are encouraged to be involved in a student’s book selections. Even though part of the media collection is filtered for senior reading levels and interest, we still ask that parents read and review the books your student selects. (See the Open Letter to Families).
Besides reviewing the print source, it is possible to have your student read a wide variety of E-books that are offered as well. These are available on the student’s BPS Launchpad on the SORA app. They can choose from fiction, non-fiction, math, science, and many other subjects. The brand new SSYRA books and FTR books for this school-year are also available for reading.
Another great resource available for research and electronic resources is on the BPS Launchpad using the BPS GALE Secondary or BPS GALE Elementary Apps depending on grade level of the student. The student can use these resources for research papers or looking up any factual information for their classes.
The Media Center is also featured on the Cocoa High School Webpage on Launchpad under the Departments link. Or, the direct URL to the webpage is https://www.brevardschools.org/CocoaJRSR. All of these resources are also featured there including the GALE databases, SORA, World Book Online and many others.
If you have any questions or need help with logins or passwords, please email me, Sonja Crisafulli, at crisafulli.sonja@brevardschools.org or call me at 321-632-5300 Ext. 22200. I am looking forward to serving you and your student this school year.
With best regards,

Tiger Battalion
“Welcome to a New Year”
An Honor Unit with Distinction since 1971
Hello and welcome Cadets of the 2022-2023 Tiger Battalion! I am Cadet First Lieutenant Ryan Bunting, your new Battalion Commander. I am honored to accept this amazing opportunity to lead this year’s Tiger Battalion, and I will do my best to become a dependable leader for cadets of the battalion. I will work hard to help guide cadets into becoming the best students, leaders, and citizens for our school and community. Our battalion’s leaders will provide purpose, direction, and motivation throughout the year to ensure cadets will be able to grow as leaders. I look forward to witnessing the incoming upperclassmen and experienced leaders demonstrate their full potential as leaders. Every single cadet playing his or her role is what forms the foundation of our Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program.
We would like to welcome our new LET 1 Cadets to the Cocoa Tiger Battalion. Our mission for this school year is to motivate our cadets to be better citizens, as well as exceptional leaders. We also want to focus on our previous cadet leaders, we hope that you will be role models to our new LET 1 cadets, and show them what JROTC is all about. Our special teams offer a variety of options for cadets. Cadets can learn to participate, and learn new skill sets. These teams include Honor Guard, Raider Team, Rifle Team, JLAB, and Drill Team. Each team provides opportunities for Cadets to attain skills such as formal presentations of our nation’s colors at football games with our Honor Guard, to physical fitness during meets with our Raider Team. Our Cadets from the school year 2021-2022 came back from JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) also known as Leadership Camp. Cadets left on 10th of March and returned on the 13th of March. Every Cadet returned with amazing leadership and teamwork skills.
There will be events and tryouts to start this New Year off. Not only will there be Raider Team tryouts, but also Honor/Color Guard. In addition to the returning activities, Rifle Team is being moved to the fall semester. These activities will provide cadets team building and leadership skills; by participating in these events, cadets will receive uniform rewards including arcs, cords, and ribbons. Community Service events will be offered to Cadets; these events will provide for the community and help cadets obtain community service hours. Another event for cadets to look forward to is the ASVAB. The ASVAB provides opportunities for those who care to join the military and see their potential in each of the branches of service. There will be Recruiters coming in to talk about the benefits of each of their respective branches. I hope that we have a great start to this New Year. Tigers, I hope to see you show your full potential.
