Oh! The Places You'll Go!

2015-2016 LVES Weekly Staff Newsletter

Week of January 4-8, 2016

New Procedure Starting Tomorrow...

Parents will not be allowed to walk their child to class if they arrive after 7:45. We want to ensure that learning time is not interrupted by visitors once school starts.

Expectations Review

It's been 2 looong weeks since students have been in school, so start the new year off on the right foot by reviewing classroom and common area expectations with your students. It only takes 3 days for students to forget the rules and routines:-)

Fire Inspector Visit

I walked the halls with the Fire Inspector today and discussed the violations he found. Through some negotiations, here is the timeline on what needs to be fixed within your classrooms. As you read the list, please keep in mind that his job is to look at our building and classrooms through the lens of a firefighter and what needs to be done to keep our students and you safe should a fire occur. The following list is not a suggestion, but items that need to be removed within the timeframe given.

By Friday, January 8th:

  • all extension cords and multi-plug outlets removed from room
  • curtains taken down (rugs can stay for right now)
  • floor lamps, clip lamps and Christmas lights removed from classrooms
  • candles removed
  • items hanging from ceilings removed (including decorations)
  • all doors (exterior and closet doors) must not have anything on them
  • exits must be cleared from clutter and objects

By Spring Break:

No more than 20% of your classroom and hallway walls can be covered with posters, number lines, color words, shape words, student work, anchor charts etc. If you are a visual learner, 20% would be one wall of your classroom.

By End of Year/Summer:

Closets need to be cleaned and purged. Items cannot be on the floor or on the top of the shelf. There must be at least 24 inches between the ceiling and the shelf that is free of clutter and materials.

I know that this is a change, and it may require you to rearrange your rooms. However, student and staff safety is our top priority and these items need to be addressed to ensure everyone's safety. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask:-)

Front Playground

The new fence is in and it looks great! Please continue to keep students away from the fence, as the new fabric has some sharp places and there are gaps at the bottom in some places. We are working on fixing the gaps at the bottom.

Tier 2 Meetings on Thursday

These were rescheduled from December. We will meet in team leader's room during your planning time to discuss progress of tier 2 students on goals. Please make sure you have uploaded the most current progress monitoring document to your student's RtI Plan before the meeting.

UIL Ready Writing Contest

Thursday, January 7th is the UIL Ready Writing contest, so Cathy Evans will need Computer Lab A. Cathy sent an email out today with the names of students and times they need to report to Computer Lab A. Thanks for being flexible with the Computer Lab!
