Teaching the Way of Jesus Christ.

A Message from Our Principal

Dear Holy Family Catholic School Community,

Did you know that Holy Family Catholic Church and School was originally named St. Alice Catholic Church and School? Sara Hiett, Lisa Griffith and I have been working on creating a dedicated gallery space in Pemberton Library to celebrate the history of our school. Come and visit the gallery at the next Coffee and Conversation with the Principal on Wednesday, October 23, from 7:30am to 8:30am.

Our Virtue of the Month is Forgiveness and our Saint of the Month is Saint Faustina. Our students prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet last week at Monday Morning Prayer to deepen their understanding of mercy and forgiveness. This week we will pray A Prayer to be Merciful.

A Prayer to be Merciful

Help me, O Lord, that my eyes may be merciful, so that I may never suspect or judge from appearances, but look for what is beautiful in my neighbor’s soul.

Help me, O Lord, that my ears may be merciful, so that I may give heed to my neighbor’s needs.

Help me, O Lord, that my tongue may be merciful, so that I should never speak negatively of my neighbor.

Help me, O Lord, that my hands may be merciful and filled with good deeds, so that I may do only good to my neighbor.

Help me, O Lord, that my feet may be merciful, so that I may hurry to assist my neighbor

Help me, O Lord, that my heart may be merciful, so that I myself may feel all the sufferings of my neighbor.

May Your mercy, O Lord, rest upon me.

Amen.

I thank God for opening the door for me to teach at Holy Family Catholic School. Our students and staff are truly amazing. In 1979, Saint John Paul II said in a message to the NCEA, “Catholic education is above all a question of communicating Christ, of helping to form Christ in the lives of others.” That is our calling; to ensure that we are teaching our students, and working alongside our peers, with each other’s soul in mind. We are actively trying to help each other get to Heaven. For 14 years, teaching was a profession but since joining the HFCS faculty it has become a vocation. I love that we are a community that engages in dialogue and PRAYER with each other and our students. We get to witness God’s mission being fulfilled daily in and through our precious church and school. I love being a growing part of THIS. That’s why I teach and why I treasure the blessing of being a Holy Family Hornet! And, the icing on the cake is that I get to see my own three children participating and growing in their own sweet faith at Holy Family.
