Dear Peter Noyes Families,
On Friday, January 29, all district staff will participate in important professional development and engage in thoughtful conversation about equity and inclusion. I am grateful for the work of the district Equity Working Group in making this day possible. All of us will participate in a session with Cyndi Weekes Bradley who will focus on what equity looks like in an educational setting. In addition, staff will select sessions on topics such as Culturally Responsive Classrooms and How to Talk about Race and Racism. In our efforts to be anti-racist, culturally responsive educators, we are eager to expand our knowledge and deepen our understanding; professional days like these help us improve our work in supporting all students and staff.
As you may know, Sudbury continues to roll out new or adjusted units in Social Studies which are aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. These include studying topics such as civil rights and equity. In October, the district hosted an information night for families around these topics. The event was recorded and is available to review here. You can also read more about our Social Studies curriculum here. For questions related to changes in our Social Studies curriculum, please connect with Lauren Egizio, SPS Humanities Director.
Also on January 29, students will not be in school (staff professional development day) and first term report cards will be posted.
Stay warm this weekend and enjoy your children.
Best Regards,
Annette Doyle
It was really cold at recess duty today......
Dear Families,
Thank you for your continued partnership during this unprecedented school year. In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have been working closely with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) to offer free rapid BinaxNow COVID-19 testing for symptomatic students and staff participating in any type of in-person instruction.
While we have asked all students and staff who are sick to stay home, there may be members of our school community who first present symptoms while in school. Being able to test your child at school will not only expedite results and therefore help you determine next steps to protect your student and your family, but will allow us to conduct contact tracing immediately.
The COVID-19 Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Diagnostic Test is FDA approved and delivers results in 15 minutes. Our school nursing staff has been thoroughly trained on how to administer the test using a nasal swab. The decision to administer the test will be made by the school nurse, and you will be notified via phone call before your child is tested. The school nurse will communicate appropriate testing protocol based on your child’s individual needs.
You will also be notified immediately of the test results. If a student tests positive, the student will be sent home and must quarantine for at least 10 days and until at least 24 hours have passed with improvements in symptoms and no fever, without the use of fever reducing medications. If a student tests negative with the rapid BinaxNOW, they will also be sent home and will have to be confirmed with a negative PCR test within 48 hours. Regardless of the test result, you will be notified by the school regarding next steps to take with a healthcare provider. Sudbury Public Schools will report all test results to DPH and positive test results to DESE’s Rapid Response Help Unit.
To give permission for your student to participate in the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Test, including permitting the school to share the test result information with the Department of Public Health and Project Beacon (a third party non-profit organization contracted to compile consent for testing and to share test results), you will need to set up an account.
The parent/guardian consent form code for Noyes Elementary School students is PCGOZX.
At Sudbury Public Schools, we are extremely grateful to our committed staff and families that continue to show great flexibility and resilience as we navigate through this school year. It takes all of us working together to contain the spread of this virus.
Please remember that any individual with symptoms should not be coming to school and should follow appropriate protocol.
If you have questions regarding the COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Test please reach out to your school nurse.
Thank you,
Brad Crozier
