NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR MRS. CALDWELL

Teaching our kids how to serve and help others is critical when it comes to happiness. When kids are willing to contribute and do their part it helps them gain confidence, experience, and belonging. It gives them a sense of purpose that their classroom, family, and community need them. Learning to be a helper protects kids from developing traits like selfishness and self-centeredness. It also surrounds them with appreciation. When we provide opportunities for our kids to contribute, we are directly fostering our next generation of leaders.

Message from our school Librarian:

What a busy time of year. So much to get done, so many places to go, and so many things to see. Across so many cultures is the tradition of giving. While many leave their family in search of the perfect gifts, some may realize that one of the greatest gifts is that of time. Time together. One way I love to make the time I share with my family meaningful at this time of year is to spend it reading together. Truly, my kids may not remember all of the presents they’ve opened over the years, but they do remember the books we read together. I know they do because they request them again each year. We also try to add another book every year. If you’re looking for a new book to read, you might try The Tree of the Dancing Goats by Patricia Polacco (a picture book), The Last Holiday Concert by Andrew Clements (a short chapter book), or A Paperbag Christmas by Kevin Alan Milne (a short chapter book). These books reach across cultures and highlight giving.
