Principal Message
I am hoping to include in our newsletters some pictures (certainly not all) of the events and activities that happen at Boone. It is quite amazing to record the vast array of experiences and fun the kids have. I hope you enjoy them.
Attendance Bingo: On the last school day in December, we are hosting our first Attendance Bingo afternoon for students who have had perfect attendance this 2nd 9 weeks! We are still working hard to increase our attendance rates. We are still seeing a few family trips or leaving town for a day, etc. Each day adds up and we need your kids here each day to keep them moving in their academic and social progress.
AISD will be hosting a district wide Middle School Choice Fair on Saturday, December 5th from 9-12 at Fulmore MS. Even if you don't have a 5th grader, you can start to plan options for your child. Middle school can sneak up on you. I hope you will take a minute to stop by the Fine Arts magnet at Covington. The program is growing by leaps and bounds.
We are coming up on the 16-17 school year transfer open period. Transfers can be turned into AISD in January. If you know of neighbors or friends who would like to be a part of our great community, encourage them to come and visit. I am offering tours in December for potential new families for any grade. We love having Boone Bears join our home.

Nurse Notes - Susan Shineldecker, RN
Stomach aches, headaches and fever. These are the most common complaints seen this past few weeks. Many times stomach aches occur when the student has not had breakfast and is hungry. I talk with the students while they are eating crackers and drinking water about the importance of breakfast. It is hard to have the energy to stay awake and learn with no energy food in their body. Another common reason for stomach aches is constipation. Drinking water and increasing the amount of fiber foods in their diet will help. Many time the children do not want to take the time to finish going to the bathroom as there are so many more interesting things to do. Encourage your child to take enough time in the bathroom.
Headaches can also be caused by not eating meals and drinking enough water. Another reason could be seasonal allergies, fever or head injuries. Talk with your child to see if you can determine the cause of the headache before giving them some medication.
Fever of 100.0 or more means your child needs to stay home from school until fever-free for 24 hours, without any fever-reducing medication. If your child appears ill in the morning or during the night, please take their temperature before giving them any medication. Many cold/allergy medications have more than one medicine in them, so be sure to read the labels.
Do you have any questions or concerns regarding your child? Please give me a call at 512-414-5318. I'm at Boone on Tuesdays and Fridays.
