The Power of Choice
The power of choice is real for everyone – even for us
Each day brings a new opportunity to choose.
We can…
Choose to love – rather than hate.
Choose to smile – rather than frown.
Choose to build – rather than destroy.
Choose to persevere – rather than quit.
Choose to praise – rather than gossip.
Choose to heal – rather than wound.
Choose to give – rather than grasp.
Choose to act – rather than delay.
Choose to pray – rather than despair.
Choose to forgive – rather than curse.
Fr. Norbert Weber
What kind of choices will you make today?
Dear Parents and members of our school community
At St Jerome’s, we speak about Making Jesus Real in our school and in our everyday lives. Today I want to applaud the actions of the Year 6 students who are helping with the morning drive through drop off. You can see all their beautiful faces in the photos below.
Every one of these students is an absolute champion. Without any prompting from the staff, they are showing such kindness, understanding and care to the young children on their walk to classrooms. I, along with my colleagues helping with drop off have been deeply touched to hear the gentle, reassuring conversations initiated by these Year 6 students. The teachers who greet the children at the classroom say that these little chats go on right up to the door. Their actions have genuinely helped the Kindy & PP students to adapt to not having a parent take them to the classroom.
Congratulations to each one of these students who are displaying all of the virtues associated with Making Jesus Real.
Take care over the coming week and thank you for the amazing support you have been to our staff and your children since this whole crazy Covid-19 Pandemic began. Do you recall that it was only ten weeks ago that things were normal? Gratitude to you for the messages, food, fruit and the many friendly waves we receive when out on duty. All of us are blessed to be St Jerome’s people.
Fairy Garden in Kindy - request for Donations
Kindy has made a start on the fairy garden. They have been bringing in materials and resources and up cycling as much as possible. They are putting out a call to parents for donations.
Here are some ideas they thought of:-
Synthetic turf off cuts
Old picket fencing
Old garden arch
Garden gnomes/fairies
Sparkly material/glittery fabric
Below are some photos of what they have currently set up. It is a work in progress and I'm sure they'll get there in the end and the kids will enjoy this space.
PUPIL FREE DAYS
FRIDAY 29TH MAY
Also another on final day of term
FRIDAY 3RD JULY
OSHCLUB WILL OFFER A FULL DAY ON BOTH DATES
Morning on the Oval
The students are loving having the space to run around on the oval in the morning before the first bell.
Isn't it strange that it takes this pandemic to show us that allowing children this time to burn off excess energy is actually helping them to settle to work once they go into their class? We'll be keeping this morning practice long after the virus has gone.

Week 2 – On Your Bike! Neighbourhood Treasure Hunt
It’s wonderful weather for getting out on the deadly treadly, and for a family adventure! Why not create a Neighbourhood Treasure Hunt to take part in on a family bike ride? Download a Google Map of your neighbourhood (or have your nature players draw their own!) mark your favourite spots you want to visit and list “treasures” you hope to find. You might even break out the cold tea and matches to create that authentic aged treasure map. Stain and age your map by painting it with cold black tea and leave it to dry. Then burn the edges of the map with a candle or matches (probably a job for a grownup nature player) and you’re all set!
Use your camera (or phone) to capture pictures of your treasures, so you can be sure to “leave no trace”.
A couple of safety tips:
- Always wear your helmet when riding your bike
- Keep an eye on traffic
- Make sure you don’t try and read your map while you’re riding your bike!
The Importance of Reading at Home!
It is so important that every child is reading, or read to, every day. Please ensure that your child has reading time as part of their nightly homework, and on weekends and holidays.
There is nothing quite like reading together as a family. Whether you're flipping through picture books with your little ones or sitting in the same room with older kids while, each immersed in a piece of literature, these are times you remember. For a moment, you are all able to escape worries and experience art in written form.
Through daily reading, children are exposed to a world outside their own reality. It expands their know-how, opens their minds and creates the potential for a continuation of ideas and an endless number of possibilities.
Please make sure your child has their Library Bag with them on the correct day so that they can bring home a couple of good books to enjoy! The Library is also open in the mornings and every lunch time for reading, borrowing and play!

Administration of School (AoS) - A new computer system for CEWA schools
Our school will be changing to a new computer system – Administration of School (AoS). This is an initiative by the Catholic Education (WA) to provide uniformity throughout the Catholic schools in Western Australia.
Part of the process of changing to AoS is ensuring that the school has all the information on students needed for this migration. If you have received an email over the last few weeks asking for a copy of your child’s immunisation statement or your family Medicare number, please ensure that you have supplied the school with this information. Thank you to those parents who have already provided this information.
Have you been receiving our school emails and SMS messages? You can update your email or mobile contact details by sending an email to the school at admin@stjeromes.wa.edu.au If you would like to update your emergency contacts please advise the school office.
We thank you for your assistance in providing this information.
