Field Day was
a Fun Filled
Day!
State Testing: Tuesday, May 2nd for Algebra 1 EOC
As stated above some of our students will take a check for mastery on the Texas End Of Course Exam known as the EOC. This impacts some 7th and 8th graders. Students will have a four hour time limit work. Schedules including lunches will be slightly altered on these days- thanks for your flexibility!
8TH GRADE ATHLETES: Will report to PSA first thing on Tuesday, May 2nd.
Students have worked hard this year and have many skills to demonstrate on these two days. We are confident your students are well prepared and ready to give it 100%. A few tips to maximize your son and/or daughter(s) success are…
1. Students should arrive on time. Please do your best to make sure there are not any conflicts with out of school appointments on these days for your student.
2. Get a good night’s rest in order to feel alert and ready to focus.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast either at home or at school.
4. Have a positive send off for your student in the am. Students should feel supported by you as well as confident that they are prepared. We know some nerves are typical and healthy. Again we will assure students that all the hard work until this point of the year is their preparation.
We want to remind parents and students that on testing day all cell phones and/or electronics including smart watches must be turned in to teachers during the test for test security reasons. Cell phones will be taken care of and returned as soon as testing has concluded. We understand students have phones for various reasons and just want to encourage them to follow procedure and turn them in. Thanks in advance for reminding your student to do so.
If you have any questions please reach out to your child's teacher.

LEarning @ Prestwick
K-3 Field Day Is Filled with Fun!
They were able to participate in relay races, such as the Leaky Cup Relay and the Hippity Hop. They got to jump in TWO different bounce houses thanks to our awesome PTA! They were able to show off their track skills at our hurdle, baton relay and long-jump events. AND they even got to make a splash at several water stations. Students bonded with their class all day and then were able to come together as a team to compete in the Tug-of-War. Students gathered around to watch each class compete and cheered them on. It was so exciting to watch! Overall, Field Day 2017 was a fun and memorable day for our students!
A big thank you to Coach Schafer and Coach Luna for organizing the event, Prestwick PTA, Mrs. Keegan, Mr. Aguirre, Mrs. Saldanha, and the countless parent and families volunteers that helped at each station!!!!

Staff Spotlight
Greeting Lobos! PSA is excited to introduce our K-8 Literacy Specialist, Mrs. Kim Smith. Mrs. Smith is an integral part of our Academic Support Team, and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the area of curriculum and instruction. Throughout her 21 years of teaching, she has enjoyed teaching reading, writing, and music, and she has faithfully serving LEISD students for the past nine years. Mrs. Smith earned her degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington: Bachelor of Music (with Education) and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in Triple Literacy. Currently, Mrs. Smith is working on completing the state requirements to become a Master Reading Teacher in Texas.
Each year, Mrs. Smith shares her love of reading and writing with her students. She helps struggling readers and writers across all grade levels learn new strategies that will help them become more fluent readers, have a deeper experience with the text, and elaborate in their writing. “These are skills that they will continue to work on and hopefully enjoy throughout their lives.” What Mrs. Smith loves about teaching reading and writing is that it can be a personal or social experience. She feels that it is important to provide time for students to enjoy quiet reading and writing time for self-reflection, but it is equally important for them to socially interact through book clubs and young author opportunities which allows students to learn from others.
Mrs. Smith comes from a small town in Southwest Kansas known as Sublette, which happens to be very close to Dorothy’s house (get it ...LOL Wizard of Oz... LOL… Seriously). She is married to her wonderful husband, Blalock, and they have four wonderful children. This May, Mrs. Smith and her husband will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary! Congratulations!!!
In Mrs. Smith’s free time, she loves to spend quality time with her family, cooking, and watching America’s Team. Some other interesting facts about Mrs. Smith, is that she is deeply passionate about music, singing, and writing. She has taught piano and voice for many years and has written two children’s books which she hopes to publish someday.
PSA is lucky and proud to have Mrs. Smith’s knowledge, experience, and support with working with our students and staff!
