Placerita Prospector
Placerita Jr. High School - May 23, 2021
This Week at Placerita 5.23.21 / Esta semana en Placerita 5.23.21
Good Evening Placerita Families…
We are on an A WEEK this week so we will start with period 1 tomorrow (5/24). Just another reminder to please make sure you drop your students off next to school and not on the opposite side of the street. We want to keep all our students safe.
We are so close to being finished with this school year with the final day being next Thursday, June 3rd. Some of our on-campus Cohorts will be in some of their periods for the last time this week. Next week we will continue our same pattern of Cohorts. Monday (5/31) is the Memorial Day holiday, Tuesday (6/1) will be Cohort A, Wednesday (6/2) will be online and Thursday (6/3) will be Cohort B. So with that we only have eight days of school that remain.
This week’s new addition to our Spring Extravaganza Webpage is our 8th Grade Awards Ceremony. It will be released tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM. Congratulations to all our 8th Graders who receive awards. Those who will be recognized have had at least one class where they have had straight A’s throughout their career at Placerita. We have almost 250 students that will be recognized at this year’s ceremony. You may find it here: http://placeritaspring.weebly.com/
Please see the letters below from the District Technology Department on completing our Online Registration for the Fall. Everyone must complete this process to be set for the Fall. If you already have your Infinite Campus login it is mainly for verifying all your current information.
See the information below about our book return this week. Students will be returning their books through their HISTORY classes. Each Cohort A and B student needs to bring all their books on the day they have History Classes. If you are an Online student we have a book drop-off along with musical instrument drop-off, award pick-up and Yearbook pick-up on Tuesday afternoon from 3-6 PM. Your parents can drop you off by the 300 Building Gate in front of school and then pull through the west parking lot where we have done drive-throughs and your student will meet you back there.
We have not had any parent volunteer opportunities this year mainly because of COVID; however, we do have some spots for helping with the book returns this week starting tomorrow. If you are available we would love to have your help. Please see the Sign-up Genius HERE to sign-up to help or see the button to connect below. Thanks for helping!
We look forward to seeing Cohort A Hybrid Group on campus tomorrow and Cohort B Hybrid Group on campus on Thursday. School starts at 8:00 and we will begin bringing students in through CrisisGo between 7:40-8:00 AM at the front gate. If you need help with CrisisGo let us know and we will work with you on getting all figured out.
That's it for tonight... Have a great week!
Mr. Turner

Sr. Turner

Get BARK Jr. FREE as parents in our District / Obtenga BARK Jr. GRATIS como padres en nuestro Distrito
Dear Hart District families:
As a parent, you know that keeping your children from spending all day (and night) on their devices can be a challenge, and you’re not alone. But finding a quick and easy way to manage screen time and filter the web doesn't have to be mission impossible, or cost an arm and a leg. The Hart District currently uses Bark for Schools to monitor student use of District provided Google accounts and services. Bark also offers similar products to assist parents in managing screen time and web filtering on their children’s personal devices
That’s why we are happy to announce our partnership with the award-winning online safety company, Bark, to offer our Hart District families FREE Bark Jr subscriptions (a $60/year value) for life! This service would allow you as a parent to monitor your child’s personal accounts.
About Bark
Bark was created by a father of two who was looking for a solution for his own kids. Today, more than 5 million kids are protected by Bark all over the United States. When you sign up for your free Bark Jr account, you’re not just getting a new app, you’re joining an incredible community of parents who trust Bark to help keep their kids safe and set healthy boundaries around tech use as they grow into young adults. https://www.bark.us/
Bark Jr. - Screen Time Features You Won’t Find Anywhere Else
Bark’s approach to screen time centers on the idea that different times of day call for different screen time rules. For example, when your kids are in school, you can block access to everything but educational sites. And at bedtime, you can allow apps to help them wind down for the evening. And because all kids deserve to blow off a little steam, you can designate free time hours just for play.
Bark Jr. - Web Filtering at Your Control
Bark Jr is also more than just screen time. A world-class web filter lets you select which websites your child can access on their personal devices. You can allow or block specific sites, or even whole categories like streaming services, online gaming, sexual content, and more.
Bark Jr. - FREE Subscription
If you are interested in taking advantage of this free offer for Hart District families, simply click the following link to get started. https://www.bark.us/bark-jr/signup?ref=WGSS76S

Hello Placerita Families! We have some very exciting and important news for our community.
The new Student Care Line for Placerita will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems.
If you are a student, parent, or community member with a concern that needs attention from an administrator at Placerita please text us here. You can send a text message to (661) 282-7522. All text messages received will be forwarded to our former Text-A-Tip line. We now have a new reporting system for our students and their families to use to share a concern about another student's well-being. This reporting system is called the Student Care Line.
Over the last several years, the William S. Hart Union High School District has placed an emphasis on student wellness. Knowing that a student who feels emotionally supported is more successful, the District set out to open Wellness Centers on each of our campuses, with the first of those opening in August of 2019. Now the District is looking to expand this effort even further by taking the existing Text-A-Tip line and re-branding it as the new Student Care Line, providing a more comprehensive function.
Text-A-Tip has been used by students, staff and families to report something out of the ordinary. With the goal being “If you see something, say something"; Text-A-Tip was there to report if someone was wanting to hurt themselves or others, or even if there was the possibility of someone committing a crime.
The new Student Care Line will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems. Cause for concern might be indicated by:
Trouble controlling emotions
Withdrawal from friends and usual activities
Feelings of rejection or solitude
Feeling constantly disrespected
Frequent loss of temper
Increased risk-taking behavior
Talk of suicide or loss of hope
Self-harm
Declining school performance
Students and families are at their best when their emotional well-being is supported. Please join us in our commitment to this effort by using our Student Care Line when you need it.
