A Year of Gratitude
January 10, 2020
From the Principal...
Dear Seton Families,
As we get closer to the implementation of Standards Based Assessment and Grading, I want to share with you some important terminology and information. You may begin to hear your child(ren's) teacher use some of these terms during the second half of the school year.
Standards-based Assessment and Grading Glossary
Priority Standards – Standards that have been identified as essential in a particular grade level or course, requiring more instructional time and mastery by all students.
Supporting Standards – Standards that have not been identified a most essential, but are still taught in a grade level or course.
Proficiency Scale - A scale that identifies distinct levels of knowledge and skills relative to a specific standard or related standards.
“4” Advanced - Activities that move students who have already demonstrated the
desired result to a higher level of understanding.
Scoring Guide – A tool that displays a listing of related learning targets and scores for determining current level of performance.
Rubric – A scoring tool that lists criteria for projects, assignments, or other pieces of work. They can be used to assess the product, the process, or both.
Thank you for being a part of our Seton Catholic School Community.
I have also added some examples below.
Thank you for being part of our Seton School Community.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Mane Event 2020
What is Mane Event?
The Mane Event is one of our schools largest fundraisers. We have a dinner, cash bar, silent auction and live auction. Each year there is a different theme. This years’ theme is Now and Then, taking a look back at all the school’s history. We will be introducing a VIP Whiskey Bar which will include chair massages and specialty hors d’oeuvres and desserts. There will also be a live band, beer/wine tasting and all-you-can eat buffet for all!
When is Mane Event?
In Seton Cafeteria on Saturday March 14 th from 5pm-10pm
Can I help without being in charge of something?
Of course! We have quite a few volunteers who are only available to help behind the scenes. Whether it is a few hours of volunteer time or just one day, we are very appreciative.
Do I have to attend the meetings to help?
No. However, attending the meetings can help if you decide to take on a larger role, but even then is not always necessary. A lot of our communication is done through email, phone calls/text or even catching up at drop off and pick up.
Who do I contact if I want to help?
Natalie Kohlhagen – natalie.kohlhagen@gmail.com or 920-254-7616
Where is help needed this year?
1. Silent Auction – dropping off donation request letters to local businesses, calling for donations, picking up donations, making baskets and taking photos for online bidding.
2. Decorations – creating, collecting, making and buying decorations for the event.
3. Live Auction – calling businesses for larger donations to go into the live auction and bundling them together if need be.
4. Invitations/Thank you cards – ordering and sending out invitations and thank you cards to our donors and sponsors.
5. Raffle Ticket Sales – We have an amazing raffle! The office will be selling a majority of the tickets which only leaves us with needing a few people to sell tickets after masses.
6. Beer/Wine Tasting – contacting vendors, local breweries and local wineries to be at our event (Three Sheeps Brewery and Blind Horse are already committed) and creating signs to promote those vendors.
7. Whiskey Bar – helping locate a whiskey supplier, renting the furniture (couches, tables etc.) and arranging the food.
Please consider helping us out. This fundraiser CANNOT happen without volunteers.
All are welcome – parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or family friend!
Now and Then
Seton’s 2020 spring fundraiser, The Mane Event, is themed “Now and Then”. We are asking parishioners for pictures from all of the schools including Seton, Holy Family, St. Dominic’s and St. Clement. Copies will be made and originals returned. We are creating a time line of from when the schools opened to present day. We are looking to have every school and as many years as possible represented. Thank you for all your help. Please drop off at Holy name office ATTN: Sara Lancour or email slancour30@hotmail.com.
From Home and School...
Home & School is looking for props that can be used in the photo booth for Grandparents Day. If anyone has items to donate that would be acceptable, please turn them into the office by January 10th. If you need them back, please label them so we can return them to you after Grandparents Day.
Other Important Event Dates...
Grandparents Day Jan. 14
Catholic Schools Week Open House Jan. 26 (11-1)
Mid-Year Celebration and Saints Fair Jan. 29 (6-8pm)
Do You Have Old Eyeglasses Sitting Around?
There are millions of people in the world today who need eyeglasses to see clearly. Globally, one child in four cannot see well enough to learn to read without glasses. By age 40, 90% of adults experience a decrease in the ability to read print and need eyeglasses. Many developing countries lack the resources to manufacture quality lenses. The cost of imported eyeglasses is far beyond the means of the average citizen. Millions will fail to reach their economic, educational, and social potential without access to quality glasses.
