September 19-23

Big picture

Dear Families,

Our Joyceville community has had a wonderful second week of school! It has been such a delight to witness all of the learning and community building happening across all of our classrooms! Students are settling well into their new environments and we're definitely off to an amazing start! A HUGE thanks to all of our students, staff, and families for such a wonderful launch to our new school year!

A huge thank you to our School Council for the amazing pavement games painted this summer. They are also providing us with a shed and wagon for easy access of outdoor learning materials! Yay!! If you are interested in volunteering as part of our bingo team to help generate these funds, please reach out to school council for more information. We are always looking for more volunteers for bingo, as well as for other roles.

Terry Fox Run - We are proud to announce that our school will be participating in this year's Terry Fox Run! This awesome event is scheduled for Friday, October 7th, 2022 and the rain date is October 11th. Monday September 19th is our event kick-off as we will be joining in on a virtual assembly presented by the Terry Fox Foundation and hosted by Fred Fox, Terry's brother! We look forward to getting fundraising underway and demonstrating how we can "try like Terry!" Our school donation link and specific details about our Oct 7th run will be shared next week - stay tuned!

Student Emergency Information If you have not already returned the student emergency information form that was sent home, please return it ASAP. Any corrections that need to be made can be marked right on the sheet so that we can ensure our system and information is up to date. Thank you!

Medical Plan of Care Students with new and/or existing medical condition(s) require a Plan of Care to be shared with the school. Families are reminded to return any applicable forms to the office as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your attention to this important paperwork.

Extracurricular Soccer (Grades 4-8) - Some of our students, coached by Mr. Hopkins and Mrs. Norman, will be participating in the 2022/23 LESAA Soccer Tournament. The tournament will take place at John Machin Soccer Park, 1307 John Marks Ave, Kingston, ON K7K 7G1 on Wednesday, September 21st. Please see the game schedule below.

Lost & Found With a new year starting, families are reminded to ensure that all clothing and personal items are labelled with student names. This helps our school community return lost items to their owners when they are left behind or misplaced!

The Hot Lunch & Milk programs will be starting soon. Stay tuned for more information.

Open House - The fall open house this year is planned for Tuesday, September 27th from 4:30-5:30. Families are invited to drop in during this time to meet the teacher, see the classroom and get a feel for the school. We hope to see you there!

Screening Requirements Coles Notes for staff and students -

  • Masking is optional other than when you are returning from being ill
  • Daily screening continues for the start of 2022-2023
  • Stay home if you are ill until 24 hours after symptoms improve
  • Wear a mask until the balance of 10 days (from the onset of symptoms) is complete

Looking forward to a great week ahead!

Sincerely,

Amie Domingo, Vice Principal, & Jean Paquin, Principal

Student Accident Insurance

The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.

Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefit,s and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.

In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.

A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.

If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. Or, for your convenience, you may purchase directly online at www.insuremykids.com.
