PBIS Comes to ICS

ICS students experienced a PBIS "Teach Day"
Dear Parents,
Our students did not stay still today! It was our first "Teach Day" for our new behavior framework that will be used at ICS this year.
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. It is a proactive framework used to help establish a positive school culture by applying consistent school expectations. We will be using three school expectations.
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Our faculty began learning about PBIS last spring through professional development sessions. A PBIS committee chaired by teachers met throughout the summer to plan for the 2019-2020 school year. A lot of thought and detailed planning went into establishing a behavior matrix unique to ICS. The matrix identifies ten locations along with a set of behavior expectations for each location. The areas include: the front office, lobby, stairs, classrooms, cafeteria, assembly spaces, bathrooms, recess areas, busses for field trips and the church. You will see expectations posted throughout the buildings. This has been an excellent start to our new school year.
Teach Day began this morning with an introductory all0school assembly for grades K- 8. Once the term PBIS was explained and the goal set in place for Teach Day, each class visited all ten stations (areas) on a rotating basis. The students traveled with individual bags and collected a trinket from each station in hopes the trinket will help them explain what they learned today. Feel free to have a conversation with your child about his/her experience.
We want you to be a partner in helping us make our school a positive place for our children t learn. We are including the behavioral expectation matrix attached to this letter. To ensure that you as parents and your child/children as students are aware of the school's expectations; we ask that your review the matrix as a family. Once reviewed, please sign and return the bottom portion of this letter to your child's teacher.
