#EWExcellence ~ Week of 01.25.2016

La ola del lago Spanish Immersion & Edgewood School

Week of January 25, 2016

We are nearly 1/2 done with the 2015-16 school year; crazy, isn't it? From a teaching and learning point of view, this is great news. We know our students well, have great rapport with families, and are able to differentiate our instruction to meet the needs of all our students. Each day is a precious gift... be certain to do all it takes, in every moment and interaction, to make the differences in the lives of our students and families that we know we are capable of.

Meet Ms. Anna Dutke, Circle of Friends Preschool Teacher

This is my third year teaching preschool in Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools. Prior to joining PLSAS, I taught a year of preschool in Big Lake Public Schools and worked for several years as an education specialist for the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory. I was excited about the opportunity to join PLSAS after serving as a board member for MAEE (Minnesota Association for Environmental Educators) and hearing many great things about the district and their value for environmental education.

My favorite part about my job is the opportunity to create a positive experience with school and learning for my students. I am grateful for the unique opportunity to teach nature preschool for a school district, and never cease to be amazed by how students thrive in the outdoor learning environment.

I live in West Saint Paul with my 1yr old dog, Maggie. The dog trainer describes her as being "pushy" and "determined," so you can guess which one of us rules the house...

In my free time I enjoy spending as much time as I can up at my family's cabin in Barnes, Wisconsin. Preferred activities include reading, paddle boarding, kayaking, ice fishing and snowshoeing. I am excited to become an aunt this spring and look forward to traveling to London to spend time with my new niece/nephew (and I suppose with my sister and brother-in law too...).

Copy / Paper Usage Reminder

Anything over 25 pages must be sent to the district print center with the exception of an occasional emergency. This really helps us keep costs down, as the printing services are much cheaper when done through the district print center. Please see Jenna or Angie if you have any questions.

La ola del lago & Circle of Friends Registration 2016-17

I know we have all heard it (and will continue to hear it), but we continue to grow, grow, grow! Our Kindergarten registration for La ola del lago for 2016-17 is currently at 76 - that is more Kindergarten students than we currently have!

Our Circle of Friends registration for 2016-17 opens up today (January 25) for current families, and then to the public February 1 - 14. I only anticipate we will continue to grow!

A major contributing factor to our growth is the stellar reputation our programming has with families and students. All of our collective hard work is paying off as we continue to strive to improve and get better so we are able to provide the very best learning opportunities for our students!

Meet Gina Hendrickson, Early Childhood Screener and Teaching Assistant

This is my 5th year working in the Prior Lake - Savage area school district. Two of the years were back in the day, before I was married and had kids. I currently work as an Early Childhood screener and TA. In the past, I have also worked in the district as an SLP at Ponds Edge (who remembers those days?!), Westwood and Edgewood. I love my job at Edgewood b/c my co-workers make me smile every day and I get to interact with new kids and families every time I come in. It is an adventure, to say the least ;)

I grew up in Rochester, MN and now find myself raising my own family in Prior Lake. My husband Chad and I have two amazing kiddos (Andrew is 10 and Taylor is 8), our own special angel (Regan), and our newest addition is Zuri - our cute little pup. Although I spend a great majority of my time volunteering for my kids’ activities, my favorite place to be is on the boat with my family!

I love this quote - just needed to share! :)

“We are not a team because we work together. We are a team because we respect, trust, and care for each other.”
