Principal's Message

I can not believe we are already in May. So much great learning has happened this year. As we gear up for ending the school year strong we are planning some exciting things. Many of our teachers are trying to fit in at least one field trip. Look for specific information to come from them. Mr. Larimer is working hard to plan a fun field day for students.

Teacher appreciation week starts May 2nd-6th. Please take time to tell your child’s teacher how much you appreciate them. Lunch Hero day falls on May 6th. Our lunch staff does such an amazing job of providing healthy lunches for our staff.

State Testing:

As spring approaches so does the opportunity for our students to participate in Smarter Balanced State Assessment in language arts and math. State testing will begin on May 2nd for our 3rd grade students and continue until the end of the month. It will be important for your child to be on time to school as a lot of our testing is done in the morning. It is extremely important that your child gets plenty of rest and has a good breakfast each morning. We ask that you schedule appointments around these times as it is very difficult to have students make up the testing. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education.

Kindergarten Round Up

If you have or know someone who has an incoming kindergartener please join us for our annual kindergarten roundup on May 12th. We will have an English session starting at 5pm and a Spanish session beginning at 6pm. This will be a time for parents to complete registration as well as meet all of our kindergarten teachers. There will be activities planned for your kindergartener in one of the classrooms while parents meet in our library to discuss the upcoming kindergarten year and how best they can support their child for this very important year.

Youth Truth Survey

This Spring NSSD will be implementing a cohesive set of student, parent and staff surveys to enable a comprehensive look into our schools and district from multiple perspectives. These anonymous surveys will be focused on gathering information on the overall experiences students are having with teachers, how engaged they are in school, rigor of coursework, school safety, emotional health, bullying and preparedness for the future.

This information will be reviewed by all building principals in June as part of the annual continuous improvement process and will be utilized to inform school and district decision making for the 2022-23 school year. Results will be shared with the NSSD School Board in September 2022.

By listening to our students, parents and staff, we hope to have improved environments in 2022-23.

Kindergarten Round Up in May 12th!

If you have a child who will be 5 years old before September 1st, 2022, join us for an evening of fun! Please have one parent and one student attend as we still have to practice social distancing. This is the opportunity to register your new kindergarten student, meet the principal and teachers, talk with our district nurses and get answers to all of your questions. Please bring your child's birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residence. We will have staff here to help you with registration. We will have two sessions: English at 5:00-6:00pm and Spanish at 6:00-7:00pm. No need to preregister. See you then.

Upcoming Field Trips and Chaperones

Teachers are planning to have field trips during the last two months of school. If you wish to chaperone, please make sure that you have completed a volunteer background application which can be picked up in the school office. Remember that if you have been vaccinated for Covid, a copy of your vaccination card must be included with your application. If you have not been vaccinated, a religious or medical exemption must be included with your application. Don't wait, it takes about two weeks for volunteer applications to be processed. Thank you!

Last Day of School is Tuesday, June 14th
