152 How to trick your brain into giving your body a better workout
1. Moderate your use of stimulants
- low dose caffeine can improve mental performance and protect against Alzheimers
- too much caffeine can cause a sensory overload dis-sensitized to neurotransmitters
- 7-12 days avoiding caffeine or other stimulants to avoid dependence
2. Avoid toxin exposure
- Air fresheners, perfume, refrigerated left overs
- can cause brain fog (affect production and function of neurotransmitters)
- wash produce in water
- natural hair products, cleaners (lemon juice or vinegar)
- home air filters
3. Avoid sensory overload
- brain must calm itself down using transmitters
- violent movies, computer games, staring at computer, loud music, florescent lighting
- include more silence, quite and rest
4. Fix your gut
- 95% of Serotonin made in your gut
- irritable bowel syndrome- too much serotonin in your gut
- nervous system uses more than 30% of your bodies neurotransmitters
5. Replace building blocks
- amino acids: spirulina, wild salmon, almond and almond butter
- Vitamin B 6: bell peppers, greens and spinach
- Vitamin B 12: fish and liver
- minerals: real foods, produce, fruits and vegetables
6. Eat healthy fats
- high intake of omega 3, particularly DHA (Flax seeds, winter squash,walnuts, kale, collard green)
