Keystone Exams
Kudos to all of the CB South 10th and 11th graders who recently completed the Literature, Algebra 1 and Biology Keystone Exams. Their hard work on these state-mandated assessments was obvious and we are confident that their efforts will lead to success! Students scheduled for English, Math, and Science courses during second semester will take Keystone Exams in May. More information and a calendar for testing will be posted on the CBS Assessment page soon.

Seniors Compete as Global Citizens
175 students from seven Global Relations courses recently participated a culminating assessment emphasizing global citizenship. In a competition focused on researching and advocating for sustainable and impactful solutions to one of the eight Millennial Development Goals (MDGs) established by the United Nations 2000, CB South students competed for the opportunity to present their solution to a United Nations official via Skype. 20 evaluators from throughout the school district and community were invited to judge their efforts. Great job, seniors!
The Phantom of the Opera
CBS Titan Thespians and Music Department will premiere The Phantom of the Opera on April 19, 20, and 21. Tickets for the show will be on sale on line beginning Wednesday, January 16. Order your tickets online at the Titan Thespians website. Tickets may be purchased in person from the box office Mondays-Thursdays from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m, beginning April 1. On performance days the box office will open one hour before curtain. See you at the show!
Coaches v. Cancer
CBS Athletics has a long tradition of outreach. CBS teams have raised funds and donated time benefiting community organizations such as SPCA, NOVA, Bucs County Housing, Colby Umbrell Foundations, CHOP, Operation Eternal Gratitude, Doyle Dash, Dig Pink, St. Mary's Manor, Warrington Earth Day, Doylestown Food Pantry, Goals Beyond the Net, and Warriors for Tim.
Adding to that tradition, on Friday, February 1, CBS will host our fourth annual Coaches v. Cancer event. This family-friendly event features 4 basketball games against CB West. A $5 ticket entitles each attendee to sample the wares of local food vendors such as A Taste of Philly, Chickie’s & Pete’s, Darlene Schneider’s Catering, Dominick’s Pizza, Giuseppe’s Pizza & Family Restaurant, Go Bananas Frozen Yogurt, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Philly Pretzel Factory, Pina’s Pizza, Planet Smoothie, Soprano’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, Tomatoes, UNO Chicago Grill, Warrington Pastry Shop, and Wendy’s. While in attendance guests may purchase commemorative t-shirts for $10 and may also purchase Honor Wall tags in memory or in honor of those who have suffered from cancer in the past. All proceeds from this event benefit the American Cancer Society, so come have a ball for a good cause!
Linking & Training Future Leaders
Since its inception last year, over 200 students have participated in CBS Leadership training program called First Link. Link strives to connect student leaders who work together toward a positive school climate at CBS. Teachers, counselors, administrators have nominated past participants, and a dedicated group of students and faculty members organized First Link events last year. In keeping with the organization's mission, these tasks have largely been taken over by a council of student Link Leaders. Most recently, 90 sophomores were "linked in" and plans are underway for another First Link event in March. See a brief video clip of newly trained leaders in our Link Circle here.
If you know a 10th or 11th grader who has what it takes to make a positive contribution at CBS, you can nominate a student for the next First Link event by emailing wmelvin@cbsd.org.

Boomerang Awards
Congratulations to our December Boomerang Award winner, Valerie Rube, who exemplifies the asset of peaceful conflict resolution!
Nominations for January Boomerang closed on January 22, but there is still time to nominate students for the February Asset of School Engagement. The Boomerang Award for February will recognize young people who are actively engaged in educational activities inside and/or outside of school. Nominees should take learning a step further and by their actions and enthusiasm serve as a role model to others. Nominations for February should be submitted by Friday, February 22.
