Colt Corner
Colleyville Middle School
August 19, 2022
Colts,
The first week of school was a big success. Starting on the first day, our hallways were cleared four minutes after the first bell with only a few students needing assistance in the office. Our entire school team including our students, staff, Colleyville Police Department, Dad’s Club, and PTA volunteers were incredible, making the first week the best experience possible.
Thank you for safely dropping off your Colts between 7:45 and 8:05am. We like to have the drop off area cleared by 8:05am so that our students have sufficient time to get to class on time, ready to learn. It has been great to see an empty drop off line before 8:05am all week.
Our Colts are well on their way developing positive relationships and have learned new routines and procedures this week. We are excited to watch them learn and grow and we know that it’s going to be a great year! I hope you have a restful weekend, thank you for partnering with us on this journey.

Instructions for Opening Lockers: Some of our 6th grade students may come home and tell you they are having trouble unlocking their lockers, so we thought it might be helpful to share a video demonstrating the instructions. While the lock on the locker shown in the video is a different type than the ones we have at CMS, the instructions are the same. If a student follows the instructions in this video and is still unable to open their locker, please have them fill out the form below, which can also be found in Canvas, and they will be called into the office for assistance.
7th & 8th grade students who would like to request a locker can do so by completing the following google forms. These forms can also be found in Canvas.
SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program Preview September 6, 10:00am & 6:00pm
The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions—difficulty for youths, their parents, and educators. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression (among the most common of mental illnesses) appears to be occurring at a much earlier age. Depression—which is treatable—is the leading risk factor for suicide.
To proactively address these issues, GCISD offers depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program.
The SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program is designed for all secondary students grades 6-12.
The GCISD School Health Advisory Committee has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD secondary schools.
A parent preview of the program will be held on Tuesday September 6, 2022 at 10:00am and again at 6:00pm at the GCISD Administration Building – Board Room, 3051 Ira E. Woods, Grapevine, Texas 76051.
The OPT-OUT form needs to be returned BEFORE the date of your child’s presentation only if you do NOT want your child to participate.
For more information, including information about how to OPT your student out of the program, please click here: English Spanish
SOS dates are as follows:
8th grade: September 13th (during social studies)
7th grade: September 20th (during social studies)
6th grade: September 21st (during pre-athletics/PE)

Our goal is that the parking lot and drop off areas are cleared by 8:05 daily. Thank you for being mindful of pedestrian crossings and staying off your cell phone in our school zone. See the video for details.
The bus entrance/lanes are NOT drop off/pick up areas. Our buses need to have clear access to enter and exit to keep their routes on time.
For pickup, students will be exiting from all locations throughout the building. Please have a plan in place with your Colt for pickup location.
