From the Principal's Desk
Hello FDES Families,
It has been an exciting week at Fort Daniel!
In preparation for the FIRST Lego League competition, the FDES Lego League Team had a special visit from Dacula Mayor, Trey King. Students are tasked with developing a solution to a real-world problem. Mayor King facilitated a discussion with the students to support them in identifying a problem that our local city may have. He was able to share the needs and wants of the city of Dacula in order to probe our student’s thinking around the topic. The session was facilitated by Mrs. Beth Martinez and Mrs. Kathy Williams. This story was also covered by The Gwinnett Daily Post. What an awesome opportunity for our students!
Also this week, classes recognized Constitution Week. Our Fifth Grade students were able to learn the process for amending the Constitution as part of their Social Studies lesson. The students were able to pause and reflect on this foundational document, which was signed on September 17, 1787 (230 years ago).
Finally, we welcome your feedback and communication! Our parent support is what makes Fort Daniel such a special school. Let’s continue our open lines of communication and reflection to make decisions in the best interest of our students and community!

How time just keeps moving! We are well into September and everyone seems to be getting into the groove of school.
Please contact me if your child seems to be having any school avoidance behaviors.
I have visited all the classrooms and met all our new friends. Welcome new families to Fort Daniel Elementary!
Our fourth and fifth grade students heard about opportunities to become school leaders. Peer Helpers, Student Council, and Safety Patrol are all great ways to develop skills to successfully guide other students. All three programs are open to fifth graders. Student Council is open to fourth and fifth graders. A Peer Helper is a kind of mentor who can help younger students learn a new skill in the classroom or support our teachers during instruction. Safety Patrols play an important role in helping our students fulfill leadership roles while helping keep our hallways and car riders safe during arrival and dismissal. Student Council gives our students an opportunity to develop, organize, and carry out school activities and service projects.
I look forward to reading the applications from our young leaders. Many students have waited since kindergarten to be a part of these programs. Applications can be picked up next week.
Good luck!
