Coronavirus Updates
The District has been sending out new guidance related to the Coronavirus as it receives more information. Here is the link to the place on the RCSD website with updates and other resources: https://www.rcsdk8.net/Page/9720 The County has its own updates on the following site and resources: https://www.smchealth.org/coronavirus
PE classes went over how to properly wash hands this week, paper towel dispensers and paper towels were put into the bathrooms, and I walked around with hand sanitizer at every break all week, which I will continue to do. All classrooms have had large containers of hand sanitizer since the beginning of school and we will replenish those as needed. As mentioned in the Superintendent’s update last week, please keep your student home if your student is sick.

High School A-G Requirements
This week 8th graders attended a presentation about selecting courses for high school and began to learn about A-G requirements. Language Arts and AVID teacher, Ms. Cindy Wilson, provided the following to me, which are useful resources:
This page on the state-sponsored website is specifically geared toward middle school students and explains what the requirements are:
https://www.californiacolleges.edu/#/high-school-coursework-and-college-preparation
Follow the "Search Approved A - G Lists" link on the left side of this University of California webpage, and you can enter a specific high school name and see which classes offered at the school meet each of the A - G Requirements.
Color Run
Please save the date for the 2nd Annual Kennedy Color Run: Friday, May 8th during 7th period. The Color Run is a fun walk/jog-a-thon type event with color stations throughout the course. It is FREE for all students who would like to participate, so long as we have a signed waiver on file (look for those in early April and please note that we will NOT be able to accept permission by phone).
We are looking for sponsors to help offset the costs associated with this event and this is a great way for your business to reach our wonderful community! As a sponsor of the 2nd Annual Kennedy Color Run, your generosity will be shared with students, family, school faculty, and community members. Benefits of sponsorship are largely determined by level, but all sponsors receive visibility in event signage and on our dedicated event webpage. Please visit the PTO website for more information and to see a highlight video from last year’s event:
Kennedy Dine Out

Summer Academic Opportunities
The Forest High School Center of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula will be offering four tracks over the 5-week period this summer from June 15 – July 17.
1. DOMA-prep
This track will focus on helping the students who fall just below the cut-off to test out of Algebra I support. (DOMA score equivalent to 6 – 9) They will be given an opportunity to reattempt the test at the end of summer session.
2. DORA-prep
This track will focus on helping the students who fall just below the cut-off to test out of English I support. They will be given an opportunity to reattempt the test at the end of summer session.
3. Foundations
This track will focus on building the students up in a holistic manner, especially focusing on building students interest and confidence in learning. The track will focus on discussion-based learning around finances, current events, career paths, and life skills. This may be best suited for students who currently fall into support classes and below and who would not benefit from the two test-prep class above. (i.e. DOMA test scores of 5 and below)
4. Summer Reading Book Club
This track focuses on guiding the students through their required summer reading. We will build in discussion and reflection to build up the students’ reading comprehension and vocabulary. We are working with staff at Sequoia and Woodside to make sure we are meeting freshman requirements. This track does not require a referral for students to join.
The Forest High School Center of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula wants to be very intentional with recruitment for these classes so they are seeking out referrals from the 8th grade teachers. Teachers can make recommendations for these courses and parents can also inquire about this with Mr. Camarena at dcamarena@rcsdk8.net.

Woodside High School Theatre Arts Department Presents The Addams Family a New Musical Comedy
Woodside High School presents the production of The Addams Family, a new musical comedy, with five performances March 13th/14th/15th and 20th/21st, 2020 at the Woodside High School Performing Arts Center, 199 Churchill Avenue, Woodside CA.
Tickets are available online (www.WHSdramaboosters.org).
Based off of the classic Addams’ cartoon characters and the vintage TV series, The Addams Family is every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that isn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. But then, what is normal? As Morticia says, “Normal is an illusion…What’s normal for the spider is a calamity for the fly.”
The Woodside High School production of The Addams Family is sure to have you laughing with a cast of 40 students, along with a full, live orchestra to highlight the excitement of the ghoulish score. The orchestra includes 9 student musicians and over a dozen students working behind the scenes on the tech crew.
Woodside High School musicals frequently sell out and this one is a surefire crowd pleaser so buy your tickets quickly at http://www.WHSdramaboosters.org.
