Leveraging the ELA Standards
Through the ELA Iowa Core Shifts
This course is for elementary teachers who teach or support the ELA Standards. You will gain a deeper understanding of how to leverage the ELA Standards by using the ELA Shifts of the Iowa Core Standards in the classroom. The course will directly address how the ELA shifts impact classroom instruction and will provide strategies to address the shifts.
The following topics will be included in the course:
Understanding the ELA Literacy Standards and Shifts in Instruction
Understanding Language complexity of a text and how to provide support during instruction
How to scaffold students understanding of a standards-aligned task
How to purposefully build and process knowledge and language
Course Details
Zoom meetings will be held from 3:45-7:45 p.m. on these dates:
- Feb. 16
- Feb. 23
- March 2
- March 9
Facilitators: Lori Beltran & Jill Sundblad
Attendance is required. Participants must have access to the internet.
Meetings may be independent and/or group work time. Maximum of 15 participants.
Cost: License Renewal Credit is $35
