Week 31 Recap
AASA Next Week
We had a beautiful week of weather and our teachers have been providing engaging lessons and meaningful test prep and review especially in 3rd-8th grade as we prepare for AASA. Our students have been actively engaged and are ready to showcase their learning next week.
As we approach state testing in the next two weeks, we would like to remind our families of the importance of attendance, a good night's sleep, and breakfast. Attendance is critical during these testing days. Please make every effort to ensure that your child is present and on time for school. A good night's sleep and breakfast are also key factors in helping students perform their best. We appreciate your partnership in helping us maximize the conditions to allow all kids to perform at their best next week. As a reminder, our AASA schedule is listed below for your review.
Next week is also National Assistant Principal Appreciation Week! If you would like to participate and help us out in showing Mrs. Hughes all the love next week, drop off a kind note or card at the office! We are so luck to have Mrs. Hughes at SV, and we hope you will join us in showering her with love and kindness next week!

Mindful Monday
Mindfulness Activity: Mindful Breathing
This exercise can be done almost anywhere and at any time. All you have to do is focus on your breathing for just one minute.
Start by breathing in slowly through your nose and out slowly through your mouth. One cycle should take around six seconds. Let go of your worries, to-do-list and all your other thoughts for a minute. Simply be still. Watch your breathing purposefully, focus your senses on its pathway and how it flows through your body.
Repeat this exercise at least 5 times throughout the day.
Instrument Fitting Night
If your student is currently in band and is looking to switch instruments, they must attend this event so we can finalize their switch. All students who will be starting band next year are REQUIRED to attend one of these two nights. I will be there to answer any other questions you may have. We will also have Milano Music on site to help you with all rental and equipment needs for the following year! If you have any questions, please reach out to me at benjamin.lynch@dvusd.org. Thank you and I hope to see you at our fitting night!
