Visit to the Hospital
When I was in third grade I got sick all of a sudden. I was at Children's Medical Center for a month. I was hooked up to a huge monitor with wires all over my head. I was so thin and so sick. Most of the time I was asleep due to heavy medications. My parents would tell me every day that people were praying for me to be healed.

1 Peter 5:7
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
Leaving the hospital
The day I was to leave the hospital I realized how many people came to see me. All the get well cards, flowers, decorations, and gifts from my friends was overwhelming. I still have one gift from one of my old friends. She gave me a stuffed dog. It was a lot to take in at first and also knowing I was sick didn't make it that easy. My good friends and my family were my biggest support system.
Memories of the past
I was finally diagnosed with epilepsy, but getting me on the right medication was challenging. Some of my behaviors were erratic on the new medicines. Some of the crazy behaviors that I can laugh about now, but that weren't quite so funny at the time, were things like writing all over the bathroom wall at school, hiding in the playground slide, punching my teacher as well as my mother in the face, and hallucinating strangers in my home.
Above is my third grade teacher.
Bullying made me who I am today
I have been bullied since I was in fourth grade. Before I left Pine Tree, I would come home daily crying about how mean I had been treated. Life today is not as dramatic as it was. I thought the time my best-friend of ten years told me that we weren't best friends any more was the worst day of my life, but I was so wrong. All the bullying made me the person I am today. I try to keep my temper calm and keep my head held high. I learned personally to treat people as I want to be treated.
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than this.

Chinn Guitar Project
During a hospital stay in 2012 I had brought my guitar so I wouldn't get bored staying in the room for so long. The nurse asked me if I wanted a music therapist to visit me. I had never heard of a music therapist, but it sounded like a visit I would enjoy so I told her to send her in. When she came in with all sorts of instruments and her personal guitar and music sheets she was glad to see I had a guitar of my own. She told me her name was Karen. I loved having her there and it was great because we both had a guitar so we could play together. Music has always been a source of happiness and inspiration for me. My dad asked her about her job and about how many guitars they had. She said that unfortunately the only guitars they had were the ones owned by the music therapists on staff. My father looked over at me and as soon as he caught my eyes I gave him a look of "Hello, we can fix that for them." He took my hint and told Karen that we would give the hospital ten guitars. A month later we put together a concert with two guest performers along with myself and donated ten guitars to the Children's Hospital. We had officially started The Chinn Guitar Project.

A Happy Kid
He was so glad to be one of the kids getting a guitar.
The young man above was the first person to get a guitar from The Chinn Guitar Project. His name was Austin. He touched everyone's heart in that room that day. This kind-hearted little boy was not stable enough to walk on his own. He had his walker with him, but as soon as he saw the blue guitar he was determined to grab hold of it. He had fallen over time after time trying to hold his guitar with pride. I soon had to grab hold of him so he wouldn't fall and hurt himself. This young boy named Austin was a superhero. Though he may not be flying around the world, he was a hero at heart. He definitely touched my heart that day and made an impact on decisions I would make in the future.

Fun and love
I am often asked what do I feel when I'm working with Chinn Guitar Project. It's something I can't really explain. I love seeing the kids happy and excited. It makes me feel like I just made a difference in their lives and they certainly make a difference in my life. Music always has made me feel better and it is my passion to bring some joy and comfort to other children who are suffering and may be losing hope.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness
Ten Thousand Exits by The Purple Hulls
Now I know what my Personal legend is and i'm ready to jump to the next step
I watch kids with different struggles and I know what it is like to not always fit in. I may not know exactly what my future holds, but I do know that it involves helping others. God set me on this path for a reason. I may be a music therapist, or a speech assistant, or work in a children's hospital, or volunteer at a variety of places. Whatever my path, I know that music, children, and making a difference will be a part of that path. Penny and Katy Clark, who make up the group The Purple Hulls, are good friends of our family. They told me never to give up on my dreams or goals and that is advice I intend to take and work hard on.
I have realized that epilepsy does not define my entire life. It is and will always be a part of who I am and it has been huge in shaping my personality and my future. I am on my journey already; I just never realized it until now. I am ready to make it all the way to the top and take on my challenges like gifts to be opened. They are the treasures that give me strength and determination. As my Uncle Des said "When fear knocks at the door, let faith answer it." That's what I plan to do.
