WINKLER WEEKLY

Friday, October 2nd

A MESSAGE FROM MR. GRAHAM

Good Afternoon Winkler Families,

I am hoping everyone is healthy and safe. We have now enjoyed seven wonderful weeks at school. Thank you for your help in keeping us going! Even though last week was not capped off by a traditional Homecoming weekend at BHS, the students and staff had a great time participating in spirit week! As we enter the fall season of 2020 many of the traditional school activities may look and feel different but we continue to enjoy our time together in school. We are working on our fall conferences scheduled for November 3rd and 4th. At this time these conferences will be held virtually.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Joel

“… find something wonderful in the smallest of things.”

Fred Rogers, aka "Mr. Rogers" from past PBS children's programming has the best quotes. This one came up this week and we intensely agreed that we need more small things in a world where the BIG things are taking center stage. This week we poked around the corners to capture the small, wonderful things that happen every day at Winkler Elementary School.

We listened quietly from the office to enjoy a chapter from a 3rd grade read aloud in the Gym on a rainy afternoon. We spied on a fun game in gym class, peeked through windows into the library, walked past hallway artwork, caught kids running fast and swinging free, enjoyed a moment of sunshine, squished clay, and even found leftovers from a quick indoor recess. Check out our pictures below to see the small delights we are gifted with every day when your children are here in our school.

THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Research shows that providing a high-quality education for children before they turn five yields significant medium- and long-term benefits for students. Children in early childhood education programs are:

  • less likely to repeat a grade
  • less likely to be identified as having special needs
  • more prepared academically for later grades
  • more likely to graduate from high school
  • higher earners in the workforce.

This week Mrs. Pilmaier-Barrach and Mrs. Peper are working with their 3 and 4-year-old students on small motor skills and learning about Fall.

Here are some more ways you can help your young child learn and connect with others.

  • Wear a mask that fits snuggly against your face.

  • Have your mask cover your mouth, nose and chin.

  • Wash your mask at least once a day.

  • Avoid touching your mask while wearing it.

Don’t

  • Don’t wear the mask below your nose or leave your chin uncovered.

  • Don’t rest your mask under your chin.

  • Don’t take off the mask to speak with someone.

  • Don’t wear a mask that is damaged.
