Message from our Principal
Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry
Week 3 is upon us already! Learning at Pinehill School continues to be content-rich, clearly focused, fun and engaging. I am loving the time I am spending in classrooms talking to the students and teachers about the learning that is going on.
Cross Country
All our classes are training hard for our up and coming school cross country event. This will be held next Monday 23rd May. We welcome our parents, families and whanau to come along and take part in this day. Your clapping and cheers of support on the sideline are always welcome. The Year 0-2 event will start at 9:00am with the Year 3-6 starting at 10.30am. The Coffee Guy truck will be in the car park from 8:30am for anyone wanting to purchase and enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate on the sideline during the cross country events.
Pink Shirt Mufti Day
This week is Bully free week. The Resilience Project and the Pinehill Way show that we do not accept any form of bullying. In classrooms this week there has been a continued focus on how we can spread aroha and kindness and look after each other.
This Friday, alongside many schools and businesses nationwide, Pinehill School will have a Pink Shirt Mufti Day. Your child is able to wear pink or colours close to pink (purple, burgundy, red) and bring a gold coin donation. Money raised will be sent to the Mental Health Foundation.
Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS)
KOS is a New Zealand Police Unit that will be taught in our classes this term. KOS consists of a range of child protection resources to help children and young people learn and apply a range of safety skills that they can use when interacting with others.
There is a pamphlet attached to this article and you can find out more at the NZ Police website;
Years 0-3 - click here
Years 4-6 - click here
Children will come home with resources after the teaching sessions, but it is much more powerful if you are aware of the content before it is taught so you can be prepared for questions your child may ask.
The lessons are mostly taught by teachers, but our community constable Tania Wansink will also be in school working alongside the teachers. Tania will also be holding a parent information meeting on 19th May at 9:00 am in the staffroom. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Phones and devices
A reminder about mobile phones and smart watch phones. We recommend students do not bring a mobile phone to school and that their smart watch phone is switched off during the learning school day. If you are needing to get an urgent message regarding pick up changes etc to your child, please call the school office by 2pm and we will deliver the message to your child for you. Any mobile phones that do come to school will need to be in the student’s school bag for the day. The school is not responsible for any loss or damage to student phones or smart watches. We believe that providing an environment where students can focus on learning and interpersonal interactions, rather than social media and text messaging etc, is far more beneficial.
When we witness students using their phones or smart watch phones during the day, the phone will be held securely at reception for collection at the end of the school day. The phone can be collected before reception closes at 3.30pm or collected the next day. Our local immediate schools also follow these procedures.

Pinehill School Strategic Plan
Why do schools have a strategic plan?
To…
Strive for continuous improvement and to maximise the success of each student
Have a strong vision for the future
Use community consultation response, data and research to analyse our strengths and areas for improvement
Plan and set targets for the success of all students
Account for our impact on student outcomes through regular reporting
Strategic Planning Thank you!
My sincere thanks and appreciation to our staff, students and families for your valuable input into our community consultation last year which formed the beginning of our Strategic Plan drafting process. The senior Leadership team and the Board of Trustees worked alongside The Education group in collating the consultation documentation and putting together our Strategic Plan for 2022-2024. The strategic plan is our key planning document and a living document which we will continue to monitor, track progress in our three big goal areas and update.
It is with great excitement, I share with you Pinehill School’s Strategic Plan for 2022-2024. Please see above attachment.
Our strategic vision has also in the last week been placed around the school in flash signage. You will see the Strategic Vision as you enter the office, both out in the front garden as well as in the office foyer area. Thank you for all being a part of this. We look forward to the mahi ahead and what we can achieve together.
“Dis!” Week was full of positivity for us all last week.
Room 20 created their “Dis!” moments into flowers.
Room 10 had enough “Dis!” moments to create a whole garden scene.
Room 17 collected so many “Dis!” moments that they filled their board!
Room 15 shared their “Dis!” moments with the whole school at yesterday’s assembly.
Our job now is to keep up this habit of collecting “Dis!” moments every day. Research says this increases our positivity. We certainly found this to be true last week. Talking at home about family members’ “Dis!” moments would be positive sharing too. Give it a go!

CROSS COUNTRY - MONDAY 23rd MAY
On Monday 23rd May we will be having our annual cross country event on the main field (savaday is the 24th). Parents are welcome to come and support their children during this event. Due to the changeable weather, and that this is a sporting event, we ask that students wear appropriate clothing (House colours are being encouraged), and running shoes for the event (shoes are optional for Y3-6). Children must change back into their school uniforms after all races have been completed.

Fun Food Friday This Friday, 20 May!
It’s Fun Food Friday this week! Online orders close tonight, Wednesday, 18 May. All pizza orders are to be placed online using the Kindo Online Shop. Pizza will be delivered to your child’s classroom at lunchtime. Children love their yummy pizza, don’t miss out! For every order, we raise $1 for the school. Thank you for your support!
We will be selling snacks in the hall foyer at lunchtime between 12.40 pm and 1 pm. Please let your child know there is an increase in the prices. From the health point of view, we suggest 1-2 snacks, and a $5 note is enough for your child.
There will be NO sales of these items until 12.40 pm, when lunch eating time ends.
Yummy Stickers
Please keep collecting “Yummy” stickers from apples, nectarines, peaches and pears, and barcodes from “Yummy” fruit bags. This is a year-long promotion. The stickers are exchanged for sports equipment for the school. All stickers and barcodes need to be stuck on the official forms, downloaded from www.yummyfruit.co.nz, or from the FOPS fundraising page on the school website. You can return the complete forms to the white box outside of the health room in the administration block. Thank you for your ongoing support!
