Who was Edgar Allan Poe?
Poe was one of three kids. He was born to parents who are traveling actors. When Poe was 13 he had enough writing to make a book and publish the book. Poe was the second kid born. Poe went to the University of Virginia and gambled because he didn't have enough money to pay for his debts.
What was his childhood like?
On January 19th, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe was born. When Poe was 2 his mom died from tuberculosis. Poe's siblings were separated after their mom died. Poe went to school for 5 years in England. When Edgar was 17 he went to the University of Virginia. Poe went to a military school when he was 18, since he was kicked out of the University of Virginia.
How big of a part of his life was filled with sickness and death?
Poe's mom, foster mom, and wife died of tuberculosis at a young age. He felt that everyone he loved got sick. His foster dad died a few years after he got married again. Poe's mom, foster mom, and wife all died in their twenty's.
When did he publish his first book?
Poe published his first book in 1827, he had joined the military at west point around that time. Poe also published more books later in the year. After he left West Point he decided to become a writer.
What was his most significant work?
Some of the books he wrote are, "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Raven," and "The Fall of the House of Usher. He wrote some other books before he became a publisher.

His life was a mystery. Poe wrote about his life and turned them int o stories and poems. He wrote about the deaths of everyone he loved and how they are a mystery.
Why was his death such a mystery?
His death is a mystery because he was found unconscious on the road. He was taken to the Washington College Hospital. He died at that hospital. It was said that Poe died of "congestion to the brain," but it is uncertain. His Actual cause of death has been talked about endlessly.

Poe is widely acknowledged as the inventor of modern detective stories and an inventor of fiction genre. He made his living as America's first genre literary critic and theoretician.
