Arcado's School Newsletter- September 2020
Message from Ms. Young, Principal
I hope you are doing well and staying healthy! I want to thank each and every one of you for being such a huge support these last few weeks. There are a couple of topics I want to discuss and share with you. I do hope this information is helpful as I know you want Arcado ES to remain a safe learning environment for your child(ren).
Parent Decision Regarding In-Person & Digital Learning
Effective today, no changes can be made to the parent decision. We have personally spoken to over 200 families in the past month and believe we have made every effort to assist you in making a decision best for your family.
In November 2020, you will have an opportunity to select In-Person or Digital Learning for January-May 2021 (2nd semester).
Health & Safety Protocols During this COVID-19 Crisis
I have received phone calls from parents wanting to know what protocols we have in place to keep our staff and students safe while at school. We have a team of 6 staff members who have been trained on Health Response. The training has and continues to be provided by GCPS. Our school district is working directly with the CDC and The Georgia Department of Public Health to determine protocols, processes, and procedures to be implemented in each school.
I highly encourage each parent to bookmark the GCPS Return-to Learning Hub as your primary resource for learning about the protective measures schools are taking during this global pandemic.
We are committed to following all protocols, processes, and procedures expected of us. Our district assigned school nurse speaks with us daily to ensure we understand all expectations.
As a parent of an in-person learner, please know our main focus has been and always will be the safety of your child(ren).
We take this very seriously! Thank you for your continued support, positive words of encouragement, and cooperation.
Learn more to be smart, be safe, and be responsible as students return to school.

GCPS to provide meals free of charge
Federal waiver allows GCPS to provide meals free of charge to students and to children 18 and younger.
Last week, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) granted additional waiver extensions that allow school districts to offer meals at no charge through December 31 through the Seamless Summer Option (SSO). This extension, paired with guidance received from the Georgia Department of Education, will allow Gwinnett County Public Schools to offer meals at no charge at all school sites to all students, effective September 8. These meals are provided at no cost to the individual through the federal School Nutrition Program.
Students Attending School In-Person
Arcado ES in-person learners will receive meals free-of-charge during their scheduled meal times.
Curbside Pick-up for Digital Learners
Digital learners may pick up meals in Arcado ES Bus Lane, Monday through Thursday, between 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Each day’s pick-up includes both breakfast and lunch with Thursday’s pick-up including meals for Friday. Individuals will not be allowed to enter the school to pick up or eat meals.
Curbside Pick-up for Others 18 Years of Age or Younger:
In addition, as part of the Seamless Summer Option, curbside pick-up meals will be available at no charge to anyone 18 years of age or younger, even to children who are not a GCPS/Arcado ES student. Individuals will not be allowed to enter the school to pick up or eat meals.
Gwinnett County Public Schools & Arcado ES encourage families who are eligible for the Free & Reduced Meal Program to complete the annual application to ensure meal benefits continue when this waiver expires. The application is available on the GCPS website or at https://www.nlappscloud.com/.
