Information regarding Registration for current 6th, 7th and 8th graders as well as incoming 6th graders
8th-grade families, it's never too early to plan for your children's futures, and this year, we're going to start making those plans earlier than ever. The first round of high school information comes from Northside's Magnet High Schools. Magnet schools are specialty campuses that offer focused areas of instruction.
Northside now has SIX magnet high schools:
1. Communications Arts High School (housed at Taft HS)
2. Construction Careers High School (at Warren HS)
3. John Jay Science and Engineering (at Jay HS)
4. NSITE, or Northside School of Innovation, Technology, and Education, formerly Business Careers High School, (at Holmes HS)
5. Health Careers High School (the only magnet with its own campus in the medical center)
6. Marshall Law and Medical Services (Marshall HS) --NEW!
All magnet programs are designed for college-bound students and several offer programs that earn certifications that can move high school graduates right into the workforce. All have high success rates based on test scores, graduation rates, and placement into higher education programs.
Families interested in learning more are invited to the Magnet Fair night on Nov. 29 at both (Paul Taylor Field House and Farris Athletic Complex) from 6:30 - 8 pm. Families will get a chance to meet teachers, administrators, and students involved in the schools and learn about their programs and offerings.
On December 13, all 8th graders will be invited on a field trip to the Farris Sports Complex for a magnet school recruiting visit. We are scheduled to be there from 9:30 - 11 am. Travel permission slips will be required, so please look for those permission slips during the week prior to the field trip. We will return to Rawlinson before lunch.
The counseling staff is also planning a parent night to help families begin the transition to high school. We will offer information about the high school graduation requirements, and options at Clark and our magnet schools. We like to host this evening about a week before Clark hosts an Open House/Course Fair, and that date is yet to be determined. Keep watching this newsletter and our other social media feeds for more information. Our Family Night is not just for 8th-grade families - we welcome all grades to learn about high school options, as some decisions made in middle school coursework can affect options as our kids move on.
Incoming 6th grade: 2019-2020 School Year
We're looking forward to meeting our 5th-grade future Patriots and their families on the evening of November 15 at our newly designed Sixth Grade Course Information Fair. Details will be going home through our feeder elementary schools next week. Plans are also in the works to bring all of our elementary schools over January 8 and 9 for a campus visit and to sit with counselors to make course selections for their first year of middle school! It's an exciting time for 5th graders, and we'll thrive on their energy.

Our current 6th and 7th graders will complete the registration process in January. As always, information will be sent via Remind App and the monthly newsletter and our other feeds to learn the dates and details of these important days. It's critical that parents are part of the decisions, and we'll give you plenty of information and time to make plans and discuss options with your children, their teachers, and counselors.
