CCSD15 Update

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Dear District 15 Community,
As we learn new information about the impact of COVID-19 each day, we know that new questions and concerns arise from our community. To keep our staff and families informed as the situation continues to rapidly evolve, I am writing to provide an update on District 15 actions.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES & FIELD TRIPS CANCELED
Although schools remain open at this time, the CDC recommends adjusting or cancelling large group gatherings. Effective after school today, Thursday, March 12, we will be cancelling before and after-school clubs, sporting events, evening activities and assemblies. This includes all school field trips and the use of our buildings by outside organizations. After school C.A.R.E. will be open today, Thursday. We will inform you if C.A.R.E. is closed in the future.
DISTRICT 15 SCHOOLS REMAIN OPEN
As of Thursday, March 12, District 15 does not have any known cases of COVID-19 in our schools. The health departments are not recommending that we close at this time, however there is a high probability that this will occur in the days to come. Therefore, please begin to put contingency plans in place for childcare in the event that schools close for an extended period of time. In addition, please have your children take home any materials from school that they might need for a prolonged absence from school.
We remain in frequent contact with our local, state and federal health departments. If schools are to close, we will inform you of that information as soon as possible by phone, text and email communication. It will also be shared on our website and local media outlets. As I said, the situation remains fluid and we are reacting to new information as it becomes available.
DISTANCE LEARNING PLAN
We are following new guidelines and recommendations of the Illinois State Board of Education to develop a distance learning plan to be used in the event of a school closure for COVID-19. As part of that plan, we are working to create both a virtual learning platform, at-home learning activities and some that are more paper-pencil based to keep students engaged academically should it be necessary to close schools. Local superintendents that feed into District 211 and 214 are meeting and continue to have conversations about distance learning in the event of school closures. We will share District 15’s plan with parents, students and staff as soon as possible.
REPORTING TRAVEL
As a precautionary measure, District 15 will request families voluntarily complete an online form to report any international travel they take for the remainder of the school year. We will share the form with families prior to Spring Break.
LOOKING AHEAD
Again, District 15 schools are open at this time. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, and will take further actions if and when needed to keep the health and safety of students, staff, families and our community at the forefront.
Thank you for your understanding and for working with us as we all do our part to prevent and slow the spread of this virus in our community. Please take good care of yourself and your families.
Sincerely,
Laurie Heinz
