A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Luther Burbank Families,

Last week, in recognition of Memorial Day, we took time to pause and extend gratitude to all of the servicemen and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. On Friday, our school community was honored to watch a Memorial Day video created by our very own students and staff. A special thank you to Ms. Belhumeur, Mrs. Pagington, Ms. Campbell, and our 8th grade students for contributing to this very special video. We are proud of our students' maturity and talents, and we are very pleased to share our Memorial Day 2021 video with you here.

Luther Burbank students also participated in a schoolwide activity where they wrote letters to veterans and current service members to express gratitude for their service. We are in the process of collecting these letters and will be mailing them out shortly. I am confident these letters will be appreciated and well-received.

As we turn the calendar to June, we look to busy days ahead. It's hard to believe the end of the year is around the corner. We are working diligently on transition plans and end of the year activities to celebrate our students' growth and accomplishments. Please be on the lookout for more grade-specific information shortly.

As always, we appreciate your continued support and partnership,

Laura

COVID Update, New State Guidance & School Implications

  • As of May 29, with the exception of K-12 schools and a few other settings, Governor Baker has lifted mask restrictions for those who are fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to wear masks or physically distance outdoors or indoors. Unvaccinated individuals are encouraged to wear a mask until they are fully vaccinated.

  • As indicated, schools are an exception to this and the restrictions to our school community and the district have not been lifted. Per Updates to DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) Covid 19 Guidance - May 29, 2021, Districts and schools are required to continue all mitigation strategies this school year. This will include summer school.

  • As a reminder, our current mitigation strategies include: limiting visitors in school buildings, social distancing, maintaining strong hand hygiene, organizing students in homeroom groupings with assigned seating, and mask wearing for all students and staff inside the building and on school buses unless a student receives a medical or behavioral exemption. Masks must completely cover the nose and mouth and fit snugly against the sides of the face. When outdoors, students are not required to wear masks, even if they cannot maintain social distancing regardless of activity.

  • Effective May 29,2021, fully vaccinated educators do not have to wear masks when outdoors and unvaccinated educators are encouraged to wear masks when outdoors, in alignment with the state masking advisory.

  • Students and staff should continue to monitor for symptoms of illness, and stay home if they are feeling unwell. Schools will continue to contact trace when notified of any covid 19 cases in our school communities.

  • Please email our school nurse, Darlene Perkins (dperkins@nrsd.net), if you have any additional questions. Thank you for your continued efforts and support.

Field Day, June 17th & 18th

We will be holding our Annual Field Day on June 17th for 6th and 7th graders and June 18th for 8th graders. In an effort to support our COVID protocols, this year's event will look different, but fun will be had, nonetheless. We are super excited about this year's event and know our students will have a great time.

Remote Learning Academy students should mark their calendars accordingly. Remote learners are welcome to join their grade level field day fun! More info to follow.

June 17th: Grade 6 (Morning)

June 17th: Grade 7 (Afternoon)

June 18th: Grade 8 (Morning)

A Reminder about Bike Riding and Helmets

As a reminder, students with bicycles on campus must wear helmets and are responsible for their own locks. Students will not be allowed to ride their bike home without wearing a helmet. Students biking home will not be dismissed until after the buses have exited the parking lot.
