Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!

Lil Steamer Families --
Earlier this week I attended the Illinois Principals Association Annual Conference in Peoria, IL. On Sunday, I presented to the Aspiring School Leader Network cohort (teachers and assistant principals aspiring to become principals). I shared items that I know now that I wish I knew when I first started in this role.
In addition, it was great to collaborate with the top administrators throughout the state. There were amazing keynote speakers and great breakout sessions. I have a number of ideas to bring back with me to the Greatest Little Elementary School in the Universe!
But the greatest thing, by far, was two principals who shared their stories with me. One shared that her school is currently in the process of getting a school therapy dog and used my presentation from last year at the IPA conference titled "Rocco to the Rescue" to guide them. Another principal shared he provided the same presentation to his Board of Education and was happy to share that his counselor now has a full time school therapy dog that comes to work with her every day.
It makes my heart happy knowing that Rocco's influence has extended beyond our school district and is making a positive impact for students and other school districts. I sure miss him and it was nice to hear so many state principals ask about him since he was one of their favorite parts of the conference. Next year, Roese will be attending with me.
Have a wonderful weekend,
JAGH

FES HALLOWEEN PARADE SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 31, 2023 @ 1:45 P.M.
First and foremost, I understand that Halloween means different things to different families. If horror films, scariness, and spooky seasons are your jam - that’s great. But as a public elementary school supporting children as young as age 5, that’s not our jam.
To support all children, I want to be very clear that our Halloween celebration and parade will be school appropriate for all students and families. There are plenty of appropriate costumes for students to wear. A reminder to all parents we will not allow face paint, accessories, or costumes that are inappropriate for school (examples include dressing as horror movie/story characters, bloody/extreme/grotesque costumes, weapons, etc.). If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s costume, please contact Principal Jeffrey Hoese or Assistant Principal Kelli Parsons. We will be taking a very safe and considerate approach.
Weather permitting, the K-5 Halloween Parade will be held at 1:45 PM on the sidewalks outside of the building on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. The path will go from the FES playground, up the hill towards RBMS, and then lap around the RBMS field. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be held indoors in the hallways for students only.
K, 1st, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade classroom activities will begin immediately following approximately at 2:00 PM. The 2nd Grade party will be held from 1:00-1:45 PM.
Kindergarten through 5th grade students will have time to change into a costume prior to the parade. Costumes and makeup are not to be worn to school; they will have time before the parade to change.
