GEORGE WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL

EAGLES ARISE OCTOBER 2022

ARISE - ACCOUNTABLE

Eagles ARISE is our motto and an acronym for our behavior standards.. The 'A' stands for 'Accountable.' I asked a few students what being accountable meant to them. Tide T. said it best when they said, "It means taking responsibility to do the right thing and correct mistakes when you don't."

Our teachers give students tickets when they see examples of behaviors that we are teaching. Those tickets can be used at our school store and to enter raffles for bigger items.

The next drawing will be November 9th for AirPods!

Student of the Month - Jeffrey Silverman

Jeffrey was selected as GHWS’s student of the month for October because he is a wonderful student who has worked hard since arriving at George Washington. He is well-behaved, stays on top of his work, is kind to his peers, is willing to help others and is often the most willing to engage in the lesson. Jeffrey can sometimes fly under the radar because his personality is so understated, but he is always a pleasure to have in class. Jeffrey had a goal of earning an ADDITIONAL .25 credit EACH WEEK in Odysseyware last term and has worked so fast he is on track to graduate before Christmas break. His attendance is almost perfect, his grades are high and he is a great example to those around him. Jeffrey is an awesome student!

Día de Muertos

GWHS spends the first twenty minutes of Advisory reading. We have been reading a book by Armando Solórzano, a U of U professor, about Día de Muertos and preparing for him to visit to discuss the book in November. Instead of our annual Halloween door decorating contest, classes decorated doors for Día de Muertos. The doors look amazing and students learned a lot while having fun!

Adult Education Registration Dates

Any adult with a proof of Utah address (doesn’t even need to be Ogden) who is interested in learning English, finishing their diploma, or getting their GED can enroll in GWHS Adult Education. Proof of address is the only document required for registration. The dates and times for registration are:

Monday, October 31 (9AM-12PM)

Tuesday, November 1 (5-8PM)

Wednesday, November 2 (9AM-12PM)

Thank you Ann Milner

At the October board meeting Principal Joshua Bell had the honor of presenting Utah state Senator Ann Millner with an award for being a champion of adult education.
