Semester 2 has arrived! Now is the time for a fresh start -- continue to work hard in your classes, stay organized, and communicate with your teachers and learning coaches. We know each of our scholars will finish this year strong. We are loud and proud at Compass and are cheering you on!

BLOG ~ Last week we participated in the Great Kindness Challenge — a week dedicated to creating kinder school environments and a kinder world. It’s not too late to take on the challenge. Not sure where to start? Read our blog: 7 simple acts of kindness to do as a family.

ENERGY BUS ~ Energy Bus tip of the week: Make a valentine and deliver it to a local police, fire station or military facility! It will make their day and give you some positive energy as well! Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Make a Difference Monday Message from the Energy Bus!
ISTATION ~ Istation Mid-Year Diagnostic Assessments are this week! Please make sure your scholar logs into their iStation account and takes the math and ELA assessments by the end of this week. Don’t remember your login information? Reach out to your supervising teacher and they will help you out!
NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK ~ National School Counseling Week starts today, Monday, February 4 and runs through this Friday, February 8. Be sure to celebrate and thank your counselors this week! View the full press release on our website.
OCLC CAMPUS TOUR ~ San Diego charter families - considering having your scholar participate in our two-day-a-week Navigators’ Community at our Orange County Learning Center next year? OPTIONS ROUNDTABLE ~ Have you been challenged with creating a sense of community with other local homeschoolers? Or do you have ideas on the topic that you can share with others? Then the next Options Roundtable is for you! Please join us this Thursday, February 7, at 8 pm for a chat about building a local homeschool community for your scholars. Click the orange button labeled “Parents & Scholars” near the top right of the website and then use the password, “loveCCS” to access all the information and resources. You will find information on academics, field trips, technology, records, counseling and so much more!
PARENT TOWN HALL MEETINGS ~ Be sure to join J.J. Lewis, our Superintendent & CEO, for our quarterly Parent Town Hall meetings this week. The first meeting is today, Monday, February 4 at 7 pm for our Online High School families. Learn more and RSVP today!
SPRING SEMESTER ~ We hope you enjoyed your Mid-Winter Break and are ready to start off the spring semester with a bang! Remember that this is a fresh start within the courses you are taking. You will continue progressing in your courses, but your grades are “reset.” Middle and high school scholars - please reach out to your counselor if you need a change in elective or courses, or to your EF if you have questions as to which courses you are taking this semester.
PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTING ~ Physical Fitness Testing (PFT) begins this week! Scholars in grades 5, 7, and 9 are required to participate in this state-mandated testing. Watch for a ParentSquare message this Wednesday, February 6, for more information on how we administer the PFT at Compass.
VENDOR RELATIONS
ASTEME (pronounced esteem) has a desire to inspire children to live, love and learn math and to create life-long problem solvers who will become our next generation of scientists, engineers, mathematicians, artists, architects, and leaders. If you are local to the Los Angeles area, ASTEME Learning Center would like to share their spring courses flyer with you. ASTEME offers classes in math, coding, technology, as well as improv and yoga! In addition, ASTEME offers an all-day option for families looking to spend more time learning and socializing. Guitar Center understands that music can enrich one's life in countless ways. These include (but are not necessarily limited to) improving one's memory and brain function, concentration and multitasking ability, and coordination and motor skills, while also lowering of one's blood pressure. Music studies can also instill a sense of achievement and perseverance in one's life, while concurrently improving one's happiness.
Although a retailer, Guitar Center is fulfilling its ethical duty to cultivate full communities of music makers, thereby enabling the next generation of musicians to enrich their lives through guitar riff, melody line, rhythm, soul, and song. Through celebrating the joys of learning and performing music, their innovations include one-on-one private lessons, seasonal Rock-Show ensembles, student recitals, community classes, Jam Nights, and their flagship curricular Achievement Program. In short, they are more than just a lesson provider.

FEATURED COUNSELING SERVICES WORKSHOP/PRESENTATION ~
Middle & High School Let’s Get Organized - February 7 - 12 pm-1 pm
Begin the spring semester with this workshop that will provide an opportunity for scholars to take an executive functioning assessment, participate in creating an individualized daily schedule and practicing how to spot disorganization.
THE FOUNDATION FOR BLENDED AND ONLINE LEARNING SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: February 15, 2019 1 pm PST
Available to high school seniors who have completed a minimum of five (5) blended or online courses during their last two years of high school who will be graduating in the spring or summer of 2019.
Award Amount: Ten $10,000 awards and 20 $5,000 awards
