We Are Warriors! Wake Up, Show Up, Never Ever Give Up!

After School Plans

Recently we have had a few students stay after school with permission from home to walk to UDF, McDonalds or just hanging out at school. Our school policy is that students are not allowed to remain after school and not get on the bus or get picked up if they are not participating in an after school activity that has an adult chaperone. This is for each child's safety. If there were an emergency at school and the adults in the building had no knowledge they were present, they wouldn't be able to inform emergency personnel with an accurate record of attendance. It is also unsafe to leave school grounds and walk to State Route 28 and possibly even cross 28. The other issue this causes is middle school students trying to ride the elementary buses home without a pass and causing overcrowding at times.

Please communicate with your child that they should ride their bus home or be picked up by an appropriate adult at the end of the day unless they have an approved and supervised after school activity. If a child is found on school grounds without supervision or is seen walking to UDF/McDonald's he/she will be given a consequence following our school discipline plan that could be detention, APP and/or Friday school. This will be true even if you have given them permission to do so as it has been communicated to you and them that it is against our policy.

If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact me.

3rd Year in a Row! GCSC Bike Club Grant Awarded to GMS!

Mrs. Ellen Shaw, 8th grade science teacher, has successfully earned the grant for facilitating a Bike Club for our students from the Greater Cincinnati Stem Collaborative. This grant provides 15 mountain bikes, tools, and food for a club to be held once a week for 10 weeks. At each club meeting, students are fed and meet with adult mentors to learn the science and engineering concepts that help each bike system work correctly. They work collaboratively to take apart and put back together various bike systems. In May, the entire club travels to UC to celebrate their success, tour the campus and meet other students from other bike clubs.
