Home & School President's Letter
Hello Prairie Point families,
I want to start by thanking all of those who volunteered their time in April. The Daddy/Daughter Dance was a huge hit. We had more attendees than ever and everyone had a great night. Thank you to our Father’s Forum committee for putting on this special event and for those who volunteered to help. Art to Remember items went home with month. Thank you to our parent volunteers who organize the orders and deliver them to the classrooms. Finally, this week we wrapped up Staff Appreciation week, providing treats and gifts each day of the week for all 93 staff members. I think we all agree that our staff is incredible. Thank you to the appreciation committee and its volunteers for all of their work.
Our marquee master planted flowers in the pots at the entrance of the school. Thank you, Mrs. Schlinger, for your beautiful gesture and for keep us in the know on the marquee.
We are preparing for two of the most fun events of the school year, Field Day and Panthers on the Run. This year’s Field Day theme is Crazy Carnival/Circus. Mrs. Warren and the committee have a lot of fun planned and are still in need of volunteers. We are also offering our parents who have volunteered a chance to come that day and have a picnic lunch with their student(s). Look for more information in the press.
Panthers on the Run is our annual fun run event for our 5th graders and is such a great way to end their time at Prairie Point.
This is my final letter as president. I’ve been honored to have had the opportunity to help at this amazing school. The families, staff and students are so special. It really is a great place to be. When I was approached years ago to get more involved, I didn’t think I was ready, but jumped in because help was needed. It was the best thing I could have done. I have met so many parents and have created a great and close relationship with many staff members. I’ve loved getting to really know the school and it has made me a more aware parent, knowing what the school needs and all that goes on to make it run well. I’m extremely grateful for this time and for getting a change to know so many of you! So if you are considering getting more involved but aren’t sure, I encourage you to jump right in! Time goes by so quickly and there are so many roles with different responsibilities that need to be filled.
I want to thank everyone I have had the privilege to work with on the HSO board over the years. It’s been so fun and rewarding. Best of luck to our new board. No doubt you will have an amazing year!
Besides watching the students enjoy events, one of the most rewarding aspects of being on the board is supporting our outstanding staff. Again this year, we offered over $7,000 in grants (in addition to supply grants and other support funds we offer throughout the year) to those who applied. So it’s fitting to share with all of you a letter we received from the kindergarten team. This is why we do the Panther Fitness Challenge and Tuesday Night Dinners and Fun Fair. This is why I have loved being on the board!
Sincerely,
Lisa Eloe
Home and School President
Thank you Home & School for the Professional Development opportunity
Lisa Eloe and Home and School Board-
As a Kindergarten team, we wanted to thank you for the opportunity to see Dr. Jean, an author, teacher, and song writer, for Professional Development through our application of the Home and School Grant!
The three of us were thoroughly impressed with her brain energizers, cheers for praise, review of research, classroom management songs, and ideas for embracing active learning. As educators, we found that the knowledge we gained that day has helped re-energize us with new ideas! The three of us were also asked to come on stage and lead one of her songs and it was with Proud Prairie Point hearts that we fully accepted the invitation to join her on stage!
We have started applying some of her new ideas this year with our Kindergartners and look forward to starting in August with some new routines. We have shared some ideas with colleagues as they also can be applied across grade levels.
As a class, we have created mini books for reading/writing and we have tied them into our Science unit as well! Dr. Jean presented a few quick and easy ideas for Science and last week when did the experiment together as a grade level the students were engaged and excited!
Next week we will be having a "Make and Take" time, where we switch classes and make a resource that the students will be able to use during the summer time when school is out. These tools will motivate and encourage students to continue reading, writing, extend math skills, explore and journal, and also help support parents with new ideas!
Thank you for this opportunity to grow as professionals and as a team for our students and their families!
Thanking you with our gratitude with a DISCO CHEER (all stand up.. prepare for your typical disco dance.. one hand on hip, one pointing diagonal "Ah ah ah ah You did a good job! You did a good job! Ah ah ah ah You did a good job you did a good job!)
