Inside a computer
SECTIONS OF A MOTHERBOARD
C.P.U
The C.P.U-Central Processing Unit is like the butler in a house. It organizes everything on the computer. It carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output operations specified by the instructions.
RAM
RAM-Random Access Memory is where the computer stores the current task that is being carried out. This is like your short term memory when you are thinking about what you are about to say or what you have just eaten.
Northbridge
When the C.P.U needs data from RAM a request is sent to the Northbridge memory controller.
SOUTHBRIDGE
SOUTHBRIDGE
The southbridge is an IC on the motherboard responsible for the hard drive controller, I/O controller and integrated hardware.
DVI Port
Digital Visual Interface -DVI is a video display interface developed by the Digital Display Working Group. The digital interface is used to connect a video source, such as a display controller to a display device, such as a computer monitor. It was developed with the intention of creating an industry standard for the transfer of digital video content.
NIC
A network interface controller-NIC is a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network.
Audio Jacks
Audio connectors and video connectors are electrical connectors for carrying audio signal and video signal, of either analog or digital format.
AGP Slot
CMOS Battery
CMOS is the term usually used to describe the small amount of memory on a computer motherboard that stores the BIOS settings.
SATA port
IDE connector
Integrated Drive Electronics -IDE- is a standard interface for connecting a motherboard to storage devices such as hard drives and CD-ROM/DVD drives.
