RAM-Random Access Memory is where the computer stores the current task that is being carried out. This is like your short term memory when you are thinking about what you are about to say or what you have just eaten.

When the C.P.U needs data from RAM a request is sent to the Northbridge memory controller.

The southbridge is an IC on the motherboard responsible for the hard drive controller, I/O controller and integrated hardware.
