Important Announcement from VUSD: Pivot to Virtual Learning
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that all students and staff at Roosevelt Middle School will be pivoting to Vista Virtual instruction starting on November 2nd. The reason for this change for students who chose Vista Classic instruction is due to the identification of one case of COVID-19 on three separate secondary campuses. It is important to note that all students and staff members who had close contact with the persons who were identified as COVID-19 positive were already notified in a separate letter.
Vista Unified continues to implement a robust process for monitoring the health and safety of all students and staff while on campus for Vista Classic in-person learning. We are utilizing the COVID-19 Decision Tree and Guide to track, identify, and isolate any incidence of a positive case on campus. We have just confirmed that there have been three secondary schools that have had one positive case on each of their campuses. In keeping with the direction the School Board of Trustees provided on October 27, 2020, each of these schools, including all students and staff members, will pivot to virtual learning starting on November 2nd.
This new threshold that the school board set is intended to maintain a very careful and cautious approach to the health and safety of students and staff, mitigate possible staffing shortages that may arise as a result of the quarantine process, and ensure that student access to learning is not interrupted.
Beginning on the first day of virtual instruction, students will no longer report to campus and instead should access their courses online through Canvas and Zoom. The return date for all three schools is determined by the most recent confirmed positive case. As a result, all three schools are scheduled to return to in-person Vista Classic instruction on November 12th.
Our greatest strength as a district over these past few months has been our ability to discuss our challenges in public, seek feedback from our community, and develop possible solutions to implement. We will continue our focus on maintaining a pathway for parents and students to access in-person learning through the Vista Classic model. This pivot to Vista Virtual should be viewed as a cautious and careful effort to ensure that we are responsive to the needs of our community.
Sincerely,
Heather Golly

ALL STUDENTS will be following this virtual schedule at home, so the periods that are shaded gray will be ASYNCHRONOUS.
