February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

One of the biggest concerns that students bring to the counselor is friendship issues. We often ask our students what they think a good friend is and remind them that friends are supposed to be people that we feel comfortable around and happy to be with. Even as adults, we may need to be reminded of the difference between good friends and toxic friends. What makes a good friend for us? This month, help us bring awareness to healthy relationships by talking about what makes a healthy relationship with your child.

One in three teens in the US will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone that they are in a relationship with before they become adults. Every February, a national effort is made to raise awareness about the issue of teen dating violence and this year, Humble ISD is joining the cause as a district. At Woodcreek, we have a children in different stages and have embraced the month as a way to draw attention to healthy relationships. The week of February 14th will be Healthy Relationships Week, with a different theme each day. The themes for each day are:

Nurse's Clinic

As your children receive their middle school immunizations, please remember to bring or send a copy of their updated immunization record to Ms. Lawana Garcia (WMS Nurse). Many of your children have probably already received these immunizations. For those who still need their updated vaccines, please make these appointments very soon. According to Texas state law, without proof of the required vaccines, your child(ren) will not be able to attend school and may be withdrawn. This is especially important for current 6th grade students who are entering 7th grade. Nurse Garcia can be reached at Lawana Garcia (Lawana.Garcia@HumbleISD.net) or 281-641-5205.
