A Moment With Mrs. O'Donnell
Dear Attea Flyers,
We had a successful start to our NWEA(MAP) assessments. The fall assessments will be used for all students to set growth goals in the areas of reading and math. Teachers also use the overall data to assist them in planning instruction to meet the needs of our learners.
It was wonderful to see our students supporting and encouraging each other before each testing sessions. Students wrote positive post it notes to promote good vibes.
Enjoy the four day weekend!
Diana O'Donnell
Principal
Upcoming Safety Drills
All District 34 schools will meet the state requirements to hold fire, weather and lockdown drills this year. We work with the Glenview Police and Fire Departments to run these drills. Attea will hold its fall drills on Thursday, September 29th.
As a reminder, District 34 uses the “Lockdown with Options: Run, Hide, Fight” approach to school safety, which identifies options to be considered when responding to a school threat. This approach to an active intruder is endorsed by Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This year, we will have discussions with students about what would happen in possible scenarios, presented in an age-appropriate way, to ensure students understand the options available in responding to an intruder. We practice with students how to hide in their instructional space. We will not be practicing run or fight scenarios at this time.
Per state law, parents can opt their children out of participating in lockdown drills only. If you do not wish your child to participate in this upcoming drill, please email our student success coordinator, Amy Frederick.
