I-Coach Notes

Volume 6 - Week Oct. 13-16

Thursday Instructional meeting this week, instead of Wednesday.

Dr. Mercuri is coming back this week!

Dr. Mercuri will be with us this THRUSDAY, OCTOBER 15, during grade level planning time to revisit Language objective. Please plan to bring your objectives for Math and Science for her to work on Language Objective. It will be a Make & Take session where all participants will leave the room with a deeper understanding of how to write a language objective, as it is an expectation for EWE this year!

See you all in the Flex Room during grade level planning time

Katy Richardson Math Assessment

Remember these assessments are formative with the purpose of informing K-1st grade teachers of where to start instruction with critical learning phases of math.

Instructional decisions are based on the interviews with each student.

Database is changing based on the needs of these grade level teachers. However, we are still looking for the “A” - ready to apply.

Window for Math Assessments K-1st will close on October 30th.

All K-1st assessments should be done and data should be inputted up on Eduphoria.

Let's All Read Across the Globe!

On Monday, October 19th, EWE 2nd-5th grade students will participate on a district initiative to support the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.

What is Read Across the Globe?

§ Points of Light, Deloitte, the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, and Volunteer Houston – along with other sponsors, nonprofits and affiliates across the U.S. and in 30 countries – will join forces across the globe on October 19, 2015 to shine a light on literacy! By working across time zones and with hundreds of partners, we hope to read to the most children ever in a 24-hour period. Join us in a campaign to emphasize the power of volunteers to impact literacy in your community.

  • Farmer Will Allen and the Growing Table by Jacqueline Briggs Martin will be the book volunteers will use to read to kids.
  • All volunteers will be required to read the same book/s to participating children as part of Read Across the Globe in compliance with Guinness.

Science - Are we really teaching Science?

How do you know your students are understanding content when reading "Science" informational text?

Are we using Preview-View-Review appropriately?

What makes a question effective?

  • Active engagement
  • Higher level of questioning
  • Appropriate wait time
  • Model think aloud
  • Appropriate use of visual literacy
Science new standards require students to get more questions correct in the STAAR test than before.
