The Manning Weekly Newsletter
September 27, 2019
Dear Families,
We have had a wonderful week at Manning, and it has been nice to feel autumn in the air as we arrive every morning.
Next Monday during HEART Time, our students will engage in learning about this guiding question: How can I cultivate my digital identity in ways that are responsible and empowering? Our digital teacher librarian, Mrs. Edoff, has asked me to share some resources with you, as a preview to that learning and to invite your partnership in that discussion. Below are some resources about how to help our students consider the benefits and risks of online sharing and explore how a digital persona can affect one’s sense of self, reputation, and relationships.
For tips for your family in guiding your kids to post, comment, and upload responsibly,
To learn even more, please see the SEPTEMBER DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP FAMILY NEWSLETTER created by Jeffco Public Schools.
Thanks, as always, for sharing your kids with us; it is our honor to serve them.

A message from our PTA!
We are thrilled to nominate Heidi Hill for the VP position for the 2019/2020 school year!
Fall Fundraising: We are significantly behind our fundraising targets and need your help! We are aware that as parents of middle schoolers, there are many demands on your time and energy. That’s why Manning PTA encourages each family to donate $100 so that we can avoid asking you and your student to sell stuff like wrapping paper and butter braids, (and so that you can avoid buying it!). If $100 is not in the budget right now, we absolutely understand and encourage donations of any size. To make a secure donation online, please visit manningpta.org/donate/ .
The Manning PTA spends about $150 per student each year, so you get a great return on your investment. Here are just a few of the things the PTA has provided in the last year:
- Enrichment for classroom programs at each grade, including programs at Outdoor Lab, guest speakers and artists, field trips to see plays at the Arvada Center, etc.
- Funding for additional programs such as Battle of the Books, Math Counts, Reflections, and Robotics.
- Instruments for the music department.
- Interactive TVs for our classrooms (Ask your students or your teachers about what these amazing things can do!)
- Staff appreciation
The Fall Fest Chili Cookoff and Silent Auction is on Friday, November 1! This year Fall Fest will be held at the Applewood Golf Course Clubhouse. We would love to have your help- by attending the event, bringing your best chili, giving us creative ideas for the Silent Auction, sponsoring the evening, and helping with set up/ clean up. Tickets at Early Bird Pricing are available now HERE. Prices will increase the first of October!

REFLECTIONS 2019-20 – “LOOK WITHIN”
Does your child have an interest in writing, producing films, or taking photos? Or do they enjoy drawing, painting, writing your own music, or choreographing dance? Then join us and have fun unleashing their inner artist with the PTA Reflections contest! The competition starts within our own school, and then they have the chance to compete against other students in the district, state and nationally.
This year’s theme, “Look Within,” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. Categories include Visual Arts, Photography, Music Composition, Film Production, Dance Choreography and Literature.
Students can pick up entry forms and rules from the Manning front office starting Monday, September 16. You can also visit the Manning PTA Website for more information, and/or download official program rules, submission guidelines, and entry forms on the Jeffco PTA website (http://www.jcpta.org/programs/reflections/reflections-students/).
Final deadline for Manning School entries is Wednesday, October 23. Manning Reflections representatives will be at the front of the school in the morning and afternoon of October 23 to accept student entries. Judging will take place the following week, with winners exhibited at the Manning Fall Fest – Chili Cook-off & Silent Auction on Friday, November 1.
For inspiration, visit the Reflections virtual art gallery and learn more about prizes and scholarships at PTA.org/Reflections. And for more information please contact Amy Hume @amy_hume@yahoo.com.
We hope this will be the best year yet!

Katya Paden is always putting 110% in her work. She is always encouraging to those who need help, and she will listen to what others have to say.
Nathan Trione is awesome and tries his hardest every day.
Every Monday, I have Mrs. McLeod for Heart time. She always makes my day, and makes it better.
Mr. Mo has shown all of sixth grade how much fun world area studies can be. He went all out and made time for us to experience international town. I always look forward to his class! Thank you Mr. Mo!!!
