Hawk Flock Family News
2/17/22
It's hard to believe how fast this year is progressing we we are now on the back half of the school year. Progress reports went out a couple of weeks ago to report on how students did the first 90 days of school and here in just about a month we kick in to spring time. While spring conferences have been disrupted the last couple of years thanks to COVID, we are excited to once again offer Student-Led Conferences coming up in just a few weeks.
Student-led conferences are a great way to check in on how students are progressing with the academic and behavior goals, seeing where they need more support and growth, as well as having students set goals that will help them be successful through the remainder of the year and beyond. These conferences allow students, families, and teachers a wonderful opportunity to collaborate and keep the lines of communication flowing.
Hedden staff will be scheduling conferences with families for March 9th, 10th, and 11th. Teachers will also be supporting students as they present their learning and discuss their goals for the upcoming school year. Our wonderful PTA volunteers will also be running the Scholastic Spring Bookfair during conferences.
If you have not yet communicated preferences for date and times for student-led conferences, please get that to your student's teacher as soon as possible. Thank you for sending us such great kids to work with, and thank you for partnering with us to make this a great place for them to grow as learners and community members.

^=^ ^-^ Hedden After School Activities ^ ^=^ ^-^
Currently, only 4th and 5th grade students may participate, though running club, which starts in May, will also allow 3rd graders when that gets going. We are limited in what we are currently able to offer, as we work to ensure student safety, availability of space, and student interest. There may be more clubs added before the end of the year and we will updater our activities spreadsheet as appropriate.
In order to participate students must complete and turn in the application forms to the club supervisors. Students can only participate in after school activities if they meet the activities criteria. This includes following our behavior and academic guidelines during the regular school day, as well as in the after school activity.
Please note:
1. There is no transportation provided. Families are responsible for picking students up from Hedden at the end of the activity.
2. There are no spectators allowed at this time for our indoor activities.

+-+-+-+ Attendance Note +-+-+-+
As we continue to live and work in a time of Covid 19, we understand and encourage students and families to be vigilant for symptoms that would require a student to stay home sick or in isolation. However, we do also want to encourage regular attendance when possible and ask that students and families work to be present each day they are able. Recently we have seen an increase in planned vacations and absences that are having an impact on student attendance and achievement. Below are some considerations related to those planned absences.
Dr. and Dental notes are needed to excuse appointments
Try to schedule appointments at beginning or end of day so students miss less school
We have a full time school nurse to assess your child if they are having symptoms.
A pre-arranged absence form needs to be filled out for students that will be missing 3 or more consecutive days off for a vacation.
Please plan extended vacations during breaks from school.
It is so important that students regularly attend school and have healthy attendance habits.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us to help our students be successful.
