Term 1 Week 10 - Friday 5 April 2019
A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents, Staff and Students
Term One is quickly drawing to a close.
Our Year 7 students are continuing their transition to secondary school. Next week they will participate in their Year 7 Camp at the Collaroy Centre. Years 8 to 11 continue to settle into their studies. Parents and students are reminded of the importance of regular revision of content studied in class as well as the need to make study notes for topics they have completed.
Year 12 students will receive their reports on Tuesday 9th April at 3:00 pm. Their parent/teacher interviews will take place from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday 10th April.
Rest in Peace
As we move towards Easter, our Lenten observance has given us the opportunity to start afresh and realise God's love for each of us.
As we come to the final weeks of Lent,
Let us pray
Lord Jesus,
open our eyes to recognise you,
as a sense of hope for our world
as you walk beside us,
accompanying us
on our journey in life each day.
Give us the same courage, steadfastness
and sense of purpose in our life,
that you needed
as you faced your future
and the people of Jerusalem.
Amen.

26th Annual International Women's Day Breakfast
The International Women’s Day 26th Annual Breakfast was held at the Novotel Parramatta on the 8th March. The theme this year was ‘MorePowerful Together’. This event was a memorable and amazing experience for everyone who attended, as it gave wisdom to all. The key speaker, Professor Kristy Muir, the CEO for Social Impact and Professor of Social Impact UNSW, enabled the representatives of Cerdon College to recognise that leadership is not a role, it is what you do. Kristy’s presentation had many wise words that can be carried out by all females to make a positive difference in today's society. These included hard work trumps talent, leaders are not born - they are made, understanding domestic violence and standing up and speaking out about these issues is a role for all citizens.
Congratulations to Jade Williams of Year 12 for being a finalist in the Young Women in Public Affairs Awards that was presented at the breakfast. One thing that we want to share is the message that Professor Kristy Muir gave “never give up and have fun”. We encourage everyone to contribute to a world that needs your help in any way as it is up to our generation to make a positive difference in the world.

Blue Mountains Excursion
It was a chilly morning on Wednesday 27th March, as Year 7 were excitedly gathered on the netball courts awaiting their adventure to the Blue Mountains. Studying the topic Landscapes and Landforms, the cohort had an opportunity to explore the mountains and valleys and greater landscape of the Blue Mountains, identifying the main types of rocks and how the formations have been shaped through the processes of weathering and erosion. Visiting Echo Point allowed the students to use their newly acquired field sketching skills, as they attempted to sketch the iconic Three Sisters, while also discussing their understanding of the importance of this area to the native Aboriginal people. From there, the experience continued to the Scenic World, where the students rode the steepest railway in the world into the depths of the Jamieson Valley. The rainforest boardwalk was an opportunity for them to observe the native plants and animals of the area.
Sarah Oldridge: “It was fun and cold. It was good to see the mountains, including Mount Solitary.”
Anabelle Tadros: “I loved the cable car and scenic railway, which allowed us to see the whole view and the layers of sandstone as we went down into the valley.”
Ava Holder: “I really enjoyed the commentary on the cableway as we came up through the valley.”
Serena Donkorh “I got to read some cool information about plants and animals along the boardwalk.”
