Hour of Code

Dear Parents,

Similar to last year, all students at L.M.E.S. are participating in The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week - December 7-13, 2015. Last year, 60 million students tried computer science in that one week.

This week, students had the opportunity to see what real “coders” do, and actually wrote code themselves by helping animated characters move around a virtual world.

To experience more coding opportunities parents and students can go to https://hourofcode.com/us. If you have an iPad or Android tablet you can download tutorial apps – Lightbot, The Foos, Kodable (iPad only), or Tynker.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. O’Neill – coneill@region15.org.

Happy coding!

Winter Concert

Wednesday night, our very own LMES fifth graders gave a stellar performance! The 5th Grade String Orchestra and Band performed several numbers that highlighted the different parts of each ensemble, and the turnout for this concert was huge!

Science Notebooks

Several classrooms here at LMES are trying out science notebooks this year. Similar to a reading or writing journal, a science notebook is a way for students to draw and write their thinking about the scientific process, collect data from assessments, and draft out reports to share their findings. As these examples show, students in this upper elementary classroom were studying properties of light and documenting what they had learned from experiments.
